The situation in Syria in 2017- negotiations between the U.S. supporting Kurdish forces in the north, Russia, and Turkey

By 2016 Turkey sets aside its goal of supporting rebel forces in Syria to focus on what it perceives as a threat from Kurdish forces on its border with Syria. Russia supports Turkey against the Kurds, as the U.S. sends ground forces in small numbers to support the Kurds in the north, and negotiations take place between the three countries.
