Okinawa Governor Onaga leads the opposition to the airbase relocation and construction of the new airbase in a less populated part of Okinawa. Okinawans say they see the Japanese and the Americans both as alien occupiers pursuing their own interests, as sentiment inside Okinawa is against militarism. Experts say sentiment in Japan is also shifting. Injuries to protestors would aggravate the situation.
