Auto sales in 2014 reach 16.5 million units- returning to the levels seen in 2006, with Fiat Chrysler NV at over 2 million units

Fiat Chrysler NV under Marchionne makes an astounding recovery with 2 million units sold in 2014, close to the 2.5 million units sold by Ford Motor and the 2.4 million units sold by Toyota. Sales shifted significantly to sports utility vehicles, pickup trucks and larger vehicles by December 2014, with the higher fuel efficiency of these vehicles and the price of gasoline dropping below $2.00. Sales in 2014 were 5.9% higher than 2013.
