Chris Molloy, the founding director of the Lighthouse Labs network says the lessons learned in testing for covid, the technology and training developed can now be used to tackle other diseases. It is this network that processed most of the 207 million free PCR tests in the UK. It was created after the public health network had suffered a series of cuts from successive governments and shows the resilience and strength of the British people and scientific community.

He sees the opportunity to create another legacy for the Lighthouse testing system. He says having this kind of advanced lab capacity can help tackle public health in the UK where 1 out of 3 adults have some kind of long term condition of ill health. He said this is not Beveridge 1.0 where the establishment delivers for the people. This is Beveridge 2.0 where the people engage in monitoring their own health using smart diagnostics at an early stage in their 30's, 40's and 50's when something can be done to steer away from disease instead of when it is too late and one can only treat it.

William Beveridge published the report in 1942 that was the basis for the founding of the welfare state and the NHS. Molloy hopes that governments from now on will have the vision to do this.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
