US lawsuit in federal court alleges antitrust violations in determining financial aid through price fixing and limiting aid. This includes sixteen major American universities. This WSJ report says the pillars of the decades old admissions system are crumbling. The effect is that it has added to the social and economic changes that have further disadvantaged certain groups in society, creating greater inequality and divisions in society. And created a sense of universities not sensitive to these changes that have undermined the social cohesion that prevailed after World War II, and willing to make them worse.
