Islamists say they are misunderstood. They only want freedom to go the mosque and individual freedoms. One Islamist leaders says westerners do not understand them and think they want to lock up their women in boxes. Islamist and Muslim Brotherhood rebels did a lot of the hard fighting against the Gaddafi regime and Belhaj is one of the leaders running the capital Tripoli. See the interview with Belhaj by Rod Nordland in the New York Times, Sept. 1, 2011. Belhaj says he is grateful to NATO and the West for the help in fighting Gaddafi and holds no rancor- even though he was turned over to the Gaddafi regime by the CIA in this amazing account by Nordland.
