Car Firms Bet on Biofuels

VW and Daimler both take equal investment share in biofuel company Chroen in Germany. Chroen is in the field of second generation BTL or biomass to liquid, synthetic biofuel. The convictions in Germany are that corn and other agricultural product based fuels are not going to be environmentally friendly as they the process of making fuel from corn takes as much energy and causes as much pollution as it saves. So no carbon dioxide reduction balance is possible with corn based fuel in the view of researchers at VW. Second generation biofuels use wood, plant stalks, or straw, as the raw materials.
