Airlines in the U.S. begin to replace their aging fleets after a ten year period of few orders.

United and American decide this is a good time to replace their aging fleets. The airlines seek manufacturers financing, lower prices to reflect the downturn and dropping commodites costs such as steel, and flexibility to change delivery schedules. THe idea is to be ready with fuel efficient aircraft once a recovery takes hold.
