Sushasan- Good Governance, and Surakshan- Rule of Law, for the first time since independence in 1947 India's largest state with a population of 250 million people is being transformed. This creates the right climate for domestic and foreign investment. The Swachh Bharat (Clean India) and Jal Jeevsn missions for water, electricity for every home projects provide the underpinnings of future development.

A new leader of the Labor Party in Britain proposes a National Investment Bank. Some of the funding would come from an estimated 20 billion pounds of tax debt, 20 billion pounds in tax evasion, and 80 billion pounds in tax avoidance, according to experts in the Labor Party. Corbyn says he would reverse the introduction of fees for university education by previous Labor governments and has publicly apologized for the fees. The fees plan would cost about 7.1 billion pounds and be paid for by a 2.5% increase in the corporate tax, slower deficit reduction or increase in the insurance tax, says Corbyn. Germany continues to provide free university education.

This follows the failed efforts of Republicans Boehner, Cantor and McConnell in 2011 to reach a negotiated deal with the Democrats in Congress. Camp is taking a patient approach and has shown the ability to navigate different personalities in the U.S. Congress as he works on a solution to the deficit.

Vernon Smith thinks Treasury has little experience with reverse auctions and they will be awfully hard to do. Direct injection of capital into banks is something Treasury has experience and has done recently in some bank failures such as WaMu takeover by Chase organized by FDIC and Treasury. The British rescue plan of Gordon Brown is to provide capital to the banks in return for equity stakes.

Mohamed Hanif of the BBC's Urdu Service gives the view of ordinary Pakistanis outside of the small military and civilian elite that runs Pakistan. They are just looking in and are more interested in the electricity that can illuminate a village, than with an obsession for India. Pakistan has lagged in economic development and has no emerging middle class like India. Friedman of the New York times sees America a the sucker in this game, but is oblivious to the feeling of ordinary Pakistanis who were never part of this.
