DJT launched a meme coin on Jan 20. The meme coins have no economic value what value they hold are from their value as cultural items on the internet particularly social media. Mind boggling the president's coin soars to value of $7.8 billion and Melania coin to $800 million. WSJ says the market value of the $TRUMP coin peaked at $15 billion. Eighty percent of the $TRUMP token supply is from Fight Fight Fight and CIC Digital, an affiliate of the Trump organization, according to the website connected to the token. Terms and conditions prevent buyers from joining class action lawsuits against the project and indemnify the project against any claims. Bitcoin went past $100,000 after Black Rock and Fidelity Investments launched ETF funds based on Bitcoin. $TRUMP lost half its value when $MELANIA was launched, then recovered. It has high volatility and crypto is in the same position for Bitcoin, leading experts to say crypto itself has peaked. ...

Howard Lunick is Donald Trump's head of Human Resources in 2024, for hiring people to run the government under his administration. In 1993 he was running the company Cantor Fitzgerald and taking his son to kindergarden when the bombings of the World Trade Center by terrorists killed 980 of the company's employees. Fitzgerald has contributed to Kamala Harris's campaign for US Senate in 2016, and calls himself a fiscal conservative and social liberal. In 2023 he was invited by Trump to help his campaign. Fitzgerald says the Democratic party left him with its immigration and other policies. This report by Rachel Louis Ensign in WSJ says Cantor Fitzgerald's company has embraced crypto, which larger companies have stayed away from. In it Lutnick and Musk say they plan to  create a Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE, which is also the name of a cryptocurrency. The problem with cryptocurrency is that the US Federal Reserve does not support it, China, India and the European Central Bank disapprove of it and it is banned in China even though some of the crypto companies have connections with China. Much of the inflation reduction actions were taken by the US Federal Reserve as the central bank of the Nation and by president Biden in passing the Inflation Reduction Act and investing in growing the economy. All this may be jeopardized by the action of a Trump administration limiting the independence of the central bank. The support for crypto currency by Trump creates more risks to the economy. Additional risks are posed by the views expressed in Project 2025 on the US central bank. It is stated that the financial stability mandate be removed, that employment stability be removed and its regulatory role be effectively taken out. A commission to be appointed to look at alternatives to the central banking role of the US Fed. There are inflationary episodes and banking crises yet they stem from poor behaviour of banks as private players (2009 financial crisis) and price gouging by companies and firms and are not because of the central bank. There are also episodes of poor management  which reflected the culture of that period such as Libertarian culture under Greenspan. As in management in private industry firms good or poor managers make adifference. The institution created of the central bank around 1910 comes from the crises that happened in the period before that  and how it evolved into its postwar role. This includes the Great Depression when it did not have its regulatory, financial stability and employment role. Tampering with the basic structure that has evolved over 100 years of experience would cause lasting damage to the US economy and expose it to hidden risks. This would put a severe burden on the Nation after the loss of one million lives in the pandemic that just happened, the cost of living crisis, and the severe impact that decades of loss of local manufacturing have placed on communities across America- which both the US Federal Reserve under Jerome Powell and president Biden have fought so hard to tackle. ...

Gerard Baker's column in The Times of London looks at the possibilities and the risks for the new DJT administration. This column look at the DJT pardon of violent activity offenders on Jan 6, and the use of the office of the president for financial gains through the issue of cultural meme crypto $Trump and $Melania. The challenge for the Nation says Baker is the precedent this sets. This also poses risks and Susie Wiles wisely keeps the narrative by controlling the Musk Risk Factor in the adjoining article from The Times of London.  The many sincere efforts for public service as shown in the Senate hearings for many of the nominees that received sometimes enthusiastic bipartisan support are put at risk by losing the narrative for cultural literacy and and building an economy that works for all the people under a new administration that will also continue policies for the infrastructure and manufacturing that were put forward in DJT 2016-2020 and pushed forward by Biden in 2020-2024. ...

Republicans have supported less regulation. After the 2009 financial crisis with faulty mortgages and excessive leveraging one would expect that there would be a shift among Republicans favoring necessary regulation of banks. This did not happen after the Obama administration failed to articulate a new culture after 2009 and lost control of Congress in 2010 by as much as 64 seats in the House 6 in the Senate, and in all demographic and income groups. The result was that the 2009 crisis changed some laws but not the culture of laissez faire that less regulation was better for the economy. It is left to president Biden to tackle this problem of culture and the Silicon Valley Bank clearly shows that the parts of the Republican and Democratic parties that support less regulation even where the regulation is essential for a good economy for workers and families, are self serving. No where is this culture of laissez fairre in its other manifestation in not planning for the US manufacturing base to be strengthened by government action more evident than in the way it has prevailed to turn a blind eye to not just sending manufacturing overseas, but over concentrating it in one country China with additional supply base from Japan into China. This is the challenge that the country faces- only if the culture or mindset changes will laws have the needed impact.  This report in the NYT shows that when president Trump appointed Randall Quarles to vice chair of banking supervision in 2017, Congressmen both Republicans and Democrats believed that less supervision was better for the economy. Democrats such as Congressmen Barney Frank were themselves part of the new culture when Frank joined Signature Bank's board in 2015, one of the banks that along with SVB bank caused the banking crisis of 2023. Its association with risky crypto assets is considered by the WSJ as being one reason the government decided to close it. Frank did not see this aspect of its risk insisting that the bank was in sound condition.  This culture is also manifested in its approach to the cost of living crisis and support for workers and families. The Biden administration sees the problem of culture and of clearly making the changes that create a new culture, and a new understanding of what is right for America, for its economy and for its role in the world, and best for its people.   ...
