China's industrialization, urbanization, and modernization was not achieved without the same struggles since 1990. Because years of colonization and wars, conflicts, China and India had fallen so far behind that even when industrialization, urbanization and modernization took place there was always the fear that it could be derailed by protests over the very same thing that the industrialization and modernization was doing to get- good jobs. Populations are so large that tens of millions, or hundreds of millions are involved. China carefully monitored the protests and sought to defuse this in the interests of the 1.4 billion people of China. Yet China was industrializing in the second effort- the first effort being suppressed by the Imperial Japanese Army in the 1930's. China was industrializing with much support from the US by the 1990's, upto the point that the Clinton and Obama administration let America's supply chain be shipped to China to let China advance after centuries of suffering and backwardness. Coming back to India- India is facing the same situation with some special characteristics. What are these special characteristics? The social media and mobile phones were not an ubiquitous presence in the  hundreds of millions including you tube (Google) video, and Instagram (Meta) photos during China's industrialization period 1990-2020. Even then China faced some risky periods when it monitored the situation so that industrialization would not be derailed. It is thought that somehow an elected government in China would then after protests push forward the industrialization. But this is a risky proposition most likely it would have failed first by a break up of the unity of China, second by the lack of a concerted disciplined strong effort to industrialize, modernize. Third corruption could diminish the funds and investment without a strong centralized government. If China's industrialization had collapsed as a result after protests,  media in US and Europe, the political and educated class of the US and Europe would simply shrug it off as China's fault and the Asian societies as a riddle wrapped in an enigma unable to progress. This is true of India also and one can see it happening, including participation by the same media in making that happen. Without the vigilance of China's government in 1990-2020 and today for Vikshit Bharat 2047 by India's government industrialization and modernization would never happen. This is because no democratic government could establish as strong a government needed to push through industrialization and modernization of thousand years old countries stuck in feudalism and colonization poverty, and incapable of achieving a continuous undistracted determined effort over 25-30 years. Only Britain with its Empire's resources was able to do this, and the US with its vast natural resources because of a long tradition of the Anglo-Saxon peoples in democratic forms of government. Under democratic forms of government if that route was adopted China's industrialization and modernization would have failed and ended up with a divided China and a weak China with slow, erratic economic progress. What about India? India has some chance because unlike China India had a 25 year period to prepare for democratic forms of government through elected state assemblies from 1920's to 1950. China had none, worse regional warlords and Japanese invasion in 1920-1950. What this means is that for India to succeed to create Vikshit Bharat, a modernized economy, a miracle is needed for a strong centralized party government to appeal to the people and win state elections, national elections on a nationalist call. And at the same time after winning such state elections to know that hundreds of years of self neglect, internal conflict and colonization was hard to reverse even through determined effort- gaps between jobs needed and jobs existing would exist for population of 1.4 billion in the tens of millions. The central government had to have its ears close to the ground and explain what it was doing, where it had fallen short and with humility and reflection correct course where needed. This is what the Modi government has done by having the Minnister of education resign, and taking corrective actions on the genuine concerns of protestors. And yet Explain to the Indian people that only rapid industrialization could create the jobs needed, the protestors genuine concerns could be met but nothing would be achieved if the industrialization process at the heart of things was allowed to be derailed. That would mean a disaster for India- and the Indian people could not risk the possibility of this happening after centuries of colonization and thousand years of neglect, feudal patterns, and divisions in society. Would US and Europe even understand this, would they even care? This is reflected in the coverage of the protests over education and jobs in DW.com, the Times of London, the WSJ, the NYT, and generally in the media. Would the jobs increase somehow after the protests- this entirely depends on rapid industrialization, large investments, strategic investments, and smart access to capital and technologies from US and Europe. The Modi government has given its all- clean governance,  determined effort, massive investments, ten year plan and master plan, rapid implementation. There will still be a lack of jobs but this is the best hope for India, as it was for China. Like China, India if it perseveres can only repeat the process that has happened in Japan and China since the 1950's - rapid progress to modernization and industrialization for Vikshit Bharat 2047. The Modi government has one by one tackled, the challenge of Clean Governance, Pandemic, DJT Tariffs, the Hormuz crisis, in the last decade in an unflinching effort to stay focused on creating an industrialized modern Indian economy with higher standards of living, jobs, the best infrastructure, best health care, and jobs for the millions turned out by schools and colleges. Hundreds of millions of people are being pulled out of poverty and the middle class is growing. Just when the pace of industrialization is accelerating to achieve the aspirations of the Indian people, in some places it may fall short, the growing pains of a massive effort, efforts are being made to fix shortcomings, yet the focus is unrelenting on Vikshit Bharat 2047 in stages to 2030, 2040, 2047.   ...

During the Indian Renaissance by 1900 Swami Vivekananda visited Yokohama and other places in Japan, and showed India's deep attachment to Buddhism, and the Buddha as part of the religious life of Bharat for over two thousand years of Asian history. There is a deep reverence for places like Nara and its Buddhist history, its temples, and that Sanae Takaichi comes from Nara was of special significance to India, as PM Modi said. The deeper significance of this is that there is a moral law of the universe and this is expressed in the Buddhist and the Vedic scriptures of India, China and Japan. By bringing Japan into this fold India as the cradle of the Vedic culture and the culture of Buddhism that went from Bodh Gaya, India, to China and then to Japan and Korea, is doing its own duty and responsibility to the world of nations of the European cultures that includes the Americas and Africa. By doing this it closes the chapter of European colonial interactions with Asia that led to Japan's militarization through 1945, and China/Korea's militarization, to set a new course for Asia based on the thousand years of Asian history following the advent of the Buddha to the Vedic cultures when relative peace prevailed in Asia.  ...

This report on India's handling of the Hormuz oil crisis by the Modi government in The Hindu shows how India kept prices of petroleum and gas, diesel, down to an 8% increase compared to 45% +  increases in other countries in Asia and Europe. By having all ministries work together, planning for petroleum needs years before he crisis, government absorbing the cost, renewables energy goals accelerated, and better preparation through its oil reserves, India was able to weather the Hormuz crisis. US and its ally in Venezuela have stepped in with Delcy Rodriguez's visit to India, Marco Rubio's visit to India to reassure India of supplies from their exports. Even as oil prices rose above $120 a barrel India was able to weather the crisis and show to the world and to the US, to the 1.4 billion people of India, how important a factor good governance can be in the life, survival and growth of nations and economies in the Modern World. In this report The Hindu shows petrol prices in India were up 7.5%, compared to Germany 14%, UK 19%, US 45%, Pakistan 50%, and Philippines 50%. FOr diesel UAE prices rose 85% in UAE itself, in India just 8%. Domestic cylinders of gas cost Rs 942, Ujjwala lower income and elderly benefiiciaries got it at Rs. 642 ($7). ...

Bev Craig, leader of Manchester City Council,  running to succeed Andy Burnham as mayor of Manchester region of two million people.  She also held the post of Economy, Business and Inclusive Growth leader for Greater Manchester Authority, and was the person who assisted Burnham in his work. Election is next Thursday July 30, 2026. Craig says the Reform UK and Greens vote has peaked. She says she has been compared to Burnham which is not a fair comparison given that this will be her first day in office and his last when she is elected, advice she got from Richard Leese, her predecessor in Manchester at the job for 25 years.  Bev Craig supports a 2% levy on assets over 10 million pounds and modified capital gains tax. Along with other mayors Bev supports investing in a revised version of HS2 train line connecting Manchester with Birmingham. This would boost growth in the region in Britain's largest northern cities outside London in the southeast. The Conservative government made a mistake in cancelling the project. This is similar to the delays on the bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad which accelerated after Modi's efforts in recent years and is now almost complete. Once this first leg is built India can look forward to bullet trains connecting all major cities, such is the potential of such investments, propelling India into a different level similar to work done in high speed rail in China. It is the lack of Tories to dream big for Britain and do this on a model of established practice Modi's in Gujarat, Burnham's in Manchester, that is the great big hope for Britain. Like others Dharmendra Pradhan started his career in the student wing and youth wing of the BJP. He has a degree in Anthropology from Utkal University in Bhubaneshwar. He followed his father to represent Deogar in parliament. By 2024 he became national general secretary of the BJP.  In 2014 Pradhan was made the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas. Ujjwala Yojana for free cooking gas was launched under Pradhan. Pradhan may have been so involved in state politics and distracted, and in addition his background was not strong enough to tackle the growing challenges in India's education system. This can be used as an opportunity for India to get new capable people at the ministry and in the civil service at the top of the Education Department, and PM Modi's personal attention to this important Ministry and goals set for India's education to match its advances in science, technology, and infrastructure. Protest notes over 20 million on social media channels, on Instagram 20 million, on You Tube videos tens of millions- all focused on a weak point education, and a weak minister of education in the Modi government. With an outcry about leaks of papers for exams taken by 2 million youth,  and set off by careless, unnecessary, inappropriate remark by a Chief Justice of India. Countries with huge populations such as China in the 1990's and 2000's and now India embarking on rapid modernization in the earlier stages face even with their best efforts a gap between the rising aspirations of a youthful population and the delivery of results. This is even more so in India because of two reasons one the pandemic followed by DJT Tariffs, Hormuz oil and gas cutoff. The other is non cooperation of some state governments in democratic forms of government that leave gaps in performance, something that did not happen in China under CCP in the 1990's and 2000's. Overcoming all these hurdles and delivering 7-7.5% economic growth is a major achievement that delivers new factories and new jobs. Yet all the time new challenges have to be met and there is room for improvement, there are shortcomings that can be corrected- it is the duty of good government even when it has taken on an enormous and ambitious project to modernize India, to show humility, honesty and reflection as it takes corrective action. ...

China's export dependent economy with 4% decline in fixed investment Jan-May 2026 and 27% jump in exports.1 million car exports per month in June. Exports make up 20% of China's GDP. China is challenging German companies in their home markets in Europe. Domestic sales of cars are down 16% in June. What this means is that China's growth now depends on exports alone, with construction slowdown, and weak consumer spending. How does this tie into China's posture in trade with the US? It negotiated from a position of strength on rare earths not to give in to DJT tariffs yet knows the importance of trade for the Chinese economic model, importance of US and EU markets, markets worldwide. China's strategy is to shift some of the lost US sales due to tariffs to other countries in Latin America and Asia. A top priority is to keep trade with the US and European Union on a good footing, so that its exports can be absorbed. How does it affect Hormuz? For China Hormuz as an oil source is much lower in importance and China can do without Iran, it absolutely cannot do without the US and European Union to take a big part of its exports. It also does not openly say this but it also shares concerns similar to the US, on nuclear weapons in Iran. India, Japan and the EU have similar concerns. As shown in the articles on this page China has large unused oil in reserves and coal supplies, has lower oil demand at 4% growth, and is accelerating renewable energy, so that it is now importing 8.5 million barrels a day down from 12.5 million barrels a day. By doing this China puts this oil back into the world supply leading to lower oil prices. This means the world can do without the supplies from Hormuz, keep lower oil prices, and go on as before if Hormuz remains closed. The US can focus on domestic issues and its involvement in the Middle East can be limited to naval blockade which the US Navy is capable of doing. This is good for China, good for the US, and good for the World. Local governments in China, provincial authorites, pushed growth in building road, bridges, factories during the 30 year growth phase 1990-2020. In 2026 local governments with debt loads and lack of good projects for investment are a bottleneck to growth. This is the first time fixed investment is in decline, except for the years in 1961 and in 1967. The year 1961 is a result of many mistakes made by chairman of CCP, Mao, by shifting 2 million in farm labour to work in iron foundries, and the shift from private farm plots to soviet style commune farms, coupled with floods leading to 43-46 million famine deaths (1994, Chen Yizi, top advisor to CCP General Secretary Zhao Zhiyang). 1967 is the chaotic situation of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution launched by Mao. What it shows is that the China Miracle like the Japan Miracle and the German Miracle of recovery after World War II, is based on certain conditions and will enter a phase of lower growth closer to 3% like other industrialized nations over time. India and Indonesia are larger than China and will be the next growth story, which is also shown on these pages this week, with the address to the Indonesian parliament by Modi, and Indonesian president Prabovo's saying that he has studied Modi's economic changes and is copying them as there is no copyright. ...

Modi's BJP party wins in West Bengal, Assam and Pondicherry, with new TVK party in Tamilnadu. It is avcotry for good governance as the BJP and TVK promise good governance. The BJP has brought good governance since it won the national election in 2014 and 2018, 2022, 2026. And gradually won state elections in Delhi, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Bihar, Orissa last year. This enables the whole Indian economy to advance rapidly in industrialization, modernization, and Vikshit or Developed Bharat vision for 2047 (the 100th year of independence). In the years ahead India's economy is likely to close the gap with China to become the third largest economy in the world. In 1950 India's and China's economy were the same size. The established media is ignoring what is happening to 2 billion people, bigger than the story in the Gulf with 7% of the people in South Asia which is cluttering the pages of the established media, and coverage of the teapot refineries in China that get most of that oil on China's coastline. And then get them into high school You may have to move them to another village because there's no school like that. And I've seen some of them become Ph.D.s; some of the best scientists. A Pew Research Center poll in September 2016 finds 81 percent of Indians have a favorable opinion of Narendra Modi in 2016, compared to 87 percent in 2015. Even among supporters of the opposition Indian National Congress a majority say they have a favorable opinion of Mr. Modi. The author of the poll, Bruce Stokes, says the opinion of frustration of the Indian elites and media about the Modi administration is not reflected in public opinion. West Bengal elections in April-May 2026- the elections come after Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal, nearby countries, all changed governments following protests about corrupt governance, mismanangement of the economy. Inside India there is a profound change that is not even covered in the  established media such as the BBC and DW.com. The states of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, and Bihar, in the northeastern part of India had landslides in voting for the ruling BJP party and NDA alliance for Clean government and Modernization of the economy. A similar vote took place also with a landslide for Clean Governance and Modernization in the state of Maharashtra in the western part of India with the commercial hub of Mumbai (Bombay). In the southern part of India in Kerala, the capital city local government in Thiruvananthapuram has also shifted to this Clean Governance and Modernization under the BJP government that governs at the federal level in New Delhi. India is like China and Japan before it, going through massive change to modernize the country with new infrastructure building and rapid development including investments in hospitals, universities and airports, trade logistics, factories for industrial production. The magnitude of the change is reflected inthe population of most of these states being close to 100 million in each state West Bengal(105 million), Maharashtra(130 million), Bihar (133 million), almost the whole population of the US in just 3 of the many states- witnessing huge changes that could mean 20-25% growth rate a year n the next couple of years to 2030 doubling their GDP. ...

Reeves and Lammy depart as Burnham chooses new cabinet Healey is new chancellor and Shabana continues as Home Secretary. Healey was Defense secretary under Starmer. It is important that he was in 1999 Parliamentary Private Secretary to Gordon Brown as Chancellor of the Exchequer. In 2002 he was appointed Economic Secretary to the Treasury, and in 2005 Financial Secretary to the Treasury. In 2009 he was Minister of State for Housing and Planning. Shadow Secretary of Health in 2010 and 2016, Shadow Secretary for Defense under Starmer after supporting Starmer for leadership of the Labour Party. He was first elected to parliament in 1997 and had majorities of 50-70% in elections serving for 29 years in parliament. He is the right choice for Chancellor, or Finance Minister of the UK to work with Burnham on Labour's goals. Reeves was problematic from the beginning because she stuck to what people said could or could not be done, not able to think outside the box to get Labour to be itself and do what people wanted from Labour. In this way she set herself and the Labour party for failure by losing the very public that Labour had promised to help, with this public becoming indifferent to Labour, because in many ways it was Reeves's Labour not Starmer's. As Starmer, not much of an original thinker and little experience outside of law, followed Reeves economic theories borrowed from The City, Britain's version of Wall Street. Andy Burnham is right to choose someone who can think on his feet, no knowledge of economic theory required because orthodox economic theory has failed America, failed Britain, and created the mess of single supply chain concentrated in China in the first place with its theories of comparitive advantage. What is needed is someone who grasps and hold near his heart the aspirations of the British people, and hears their concerns everyday, not think tanks telling one what to do, and acting on these concerns in creative ways, thinking and improvising solutions along the way, not afraid to experiment. This is how FDR handled the economic difficulties of the 1930's, another period like today's when Wall Street theories had failed badly. This is also how China handled the economic collapse after Mao's death following the Cultural Revolution in 1984-1997. This is how Modi handled the economic difficulties in building a modern nation by experimentation in the western state of Gujarat in 2001-2014 without preconceived ideas and theories, keeping what worked and expanding on it.  Lammy was not the right choice for Deputy Prime Minister, and failed to provide leadership and focus the country's attention on the issues of migrants, asylum hotels, housing, rebuilding relations with the European Union, economic growth, neglect of the north of England and other deprived regions. No such position of Deputy prime minister can be filled in many situations. As Foreign Secretary there needed to be some one who could speak with a stronger voice for Britain with the European Union, the US, China, India, and be seen across the spectrum of views in Britain as an effective voice. ...
