Not much is said in this report on Preibus about his personal background, except that he has a close relationship with Speaker Paul Ryan, and that he initially gave Trump a 40 minute lecture to withdraw from the presidential race after the controversial tape involving remarks made by Trump was released. He was instrumental in winning the election for Trump by bringing in the party machinery to support Trump during the last 2 weeks of the election, and at the time in the closing days of the election considered the prospect of being Trump's chief of staff on the chance that Trump would win. He now models his behaviour with Trump to that of senior people who manage Trump's resort properties, says this report. Kirill Dmitriev who has a BA from Stanford and MBA from Harvard was educated in the US and worked for McKinsey and Goldman Sachs. He worked for the US-Russia Investment Fund funded by USAID during the early years in 1990's after fall of Soviet Union. And helped sell off media properties bought at that time for that Fund to the new government. He is now the head of the Russian Sovereign Fund.

The White House says the president has the power to fire special counsel Mueller following the FBI raid on Trump lawyer Michael Cohen's properties. Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell says Mueller "should be allowed to finish his job." Senator Grassley, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said on CNN that it would be "suicide" for Mr. Trump to fire the special counsel. Mueller's investigation looks into the Russian meddling in the presidential election campaign. The raid by the FBI was authorized by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and is related to payments made by Cohen.

The Economist magazine describes Trump's business assets based on a few buildings in Manhattan, including one on Fifth Avenue. Compared to other real estate firms Trump's assets are small and lack the organization and structure typical of real estate firms. Asset values estimates also have a large range, as it lacks transparency. Not much can be concluded about his business skills says the Economist, other than that his company is not exceptional, has not raised permanent captal in capital markets, or developed a truly global business. Much of the business now relies on licensing the Trump name to properties, especially golf courses, following Trump's success with a television show "The Apprentice." In terms of cash flow the television show may have produced much of Trump's income in the last decade. The Economist says Trump's performance in the real estate business is mediocre when compared to his peers.

At 79 years, Wilbur Ross will be one of the oldest people serving in any administration, as he serves as Commerce Secretary in the Trump administration. Wilbur Ross is best known for the turnaround efforts in the steel industry. In 2002 he acquired LTV Corp, a third largest steel producer in the U.S. facing tough times and legacy costs, for $125 million in cash and $200 million in environmental liabilities. In 2005 he sold his International Steel Group to Arcelor Mittal for $4.5 billion, and is still an independent director on the Arcelor board. Ross's earlier experience was as a bankruptcy specialist at Rothschild Inc. in the 1970's working on restructurings at Texaco, TWA and Continental Airlines. Analyst Charles Bradford is cited in this report by WSJ's John Miller, who competed with Ross in restructuring proposals for failing assets, and describes Ross as working harder and being tougher to make the deals. Some of these restructurings involved cutting pensions and large layoffs. The entire U.S. steel industry faced problems from foreign competition and legacy costs at the time. This included representing bondholders for Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City. At the time Ross told creditors considering seizing the asset for a possible missed payment that it would be better to keep Trump in charge for Trump properties as they would be worth more with Trump inside. This led to Ross later providing critical backing for the Trump campaign and raising money from the business community. Mitt Romney had similiar work at Bain Capital in turnaround of failing companies, later turning to politics as Governor of Massachusetts, and 2012 Republican nominee for president. Both Romney and Ross have come under criticism for their role in cost cuts at companies involving layoffs and cutting worker benefits. ...

It gives one vote each to Lachlan, James, Elisabeth and Prudence after Rupert Murdoch's death. He is 93 years. Lachlan and Rupert Murdoch have views that have led to Fox News and Wall Street Journal news coverage that is seen as extreme. James ran the News operations with Lachlan till he could no longer support the shift, a shift consistent with his father's views. William Barr, an Attorney General for Bush and Trump is a legal adviser to Rupert Murdoch in the effort to give voting rights to Lachlan, so he has a majority. James says he is uncomfortable with the shift at the networks and that it would hurt them in the long run that the gains in ratings are short term and have led to releasing insidious forces in the US. James's wife Kathryn is a climate change activist. The siblings say the original trust had "an equal governance provision" and want a voice. They also say the move to give Lachlan majority voting rights disenfrachises them. The courts in Nevada will take up this case with the siblings working together in opposition to Rupert Murdoch and Lachlan. ...
