Gavaskar names Garfield Sobers of West Indies cricket from the time of Richie Benaud in Australia, as the greatest all rounder. Sobers could change the game with the bat or the ball, or with a catch, says Gavaskar, in a way no one else could.

Gavaskar says of India in the First Test at Leeds Headingley, India's fielding was ordinary, not Test class. Catches were dropped, fielding was poor so that after five centuries India came up short. With India batting well in the second innings Gavaskar says England showed confidence that let Tongue and Woakes wind up the lower order. With Duckett's 149 with 21 fours and Crawley's 65 set up a two hundred run partnership, that Root and Smith were able to make it look easy to win by 5 wickets.

India make a stunning comeback after being bowled out for 150 runs in the First Test against Australia at Perth in November 2024. Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian team. Here is how he approached the game where he took 8 wickets and Jaiswal -Rahul had a double century partnership turning everything around.

"I played here in 2018 so I remember the wicket can be a little soft here and then get quicker, so I was relying on that experience. We were really well prepared so I just told people to have faith in their process and ability.

"We have the opportunity to do something special."

After losing 3 Tests against New Zealand India never lost courage and confidence to turn things around.

Shubman Gill breaks Sunil Gavaskar's 221 run score at the Oval in 1979. And Gavaskar was watching and happy to see the performance at Edgbaston when Shubman Gill scored 269 runs breaking many records in batting against England. It is 46 years before an Indian batsman breaks this record. Another aspect of this batting record is that it was done with minimum number of errors in batting, an almost flawless batting performance with little chance of England getting him out. Gill as captain of the Indian team for the first time also showed the kind of composure and fielding excellence in a superb catch that ended Root's batting in the England first innings.

The ICC inducts Vinoo Mankad, one of India's most famous batsmen into its Hall of Fame. Mankad scored 72 and 184 at Lord's and bowled 97 overs in 1952. Vinoo Mankad was mentor for another cricketer Sunil Gavaskar.

Gavaskar says one of the lessons he got from Vinoo Mankad was that technique alone was not enough, "you have to be hanging in there and have that self-belief."
