There are also 3 million Ukrainians in Russia, and Ukraine neighbors with whom Russia has a close relationship. In this sense the invasion is a strange event, coming more from the failures of leaders from Merkel in Germany, leaders in the US and Russia. And leaders at NATO and the EU (Stoltenberg of Norway and Leyden at EU), the US and Russia, who stuck to positions of strict sanctions and buildup of forces at the border, and did not explore other new approaches for building common ground other than trade and finance. Trade and finance are too fragile and complicated for enduring relationships, the emotional relationship that Adenauer and Brandt built, that post war Russian leaders and American leaders built during those years offered a stronger basis for peace and a better future.

He said at a news conference with French president Macron that it was "our duty to protect Mother Earth." He said after the meeting that the Paris accord was "the common heritage of the world," and "a gift that this generation can give." India has set ambitious goals for solar and wind energy as costs of solar become competitive with coal. Andrea Martin-Lof has designed about 1200 homes in Stockholm. He is designing apartments in Sweden's tallest building in Gothenburg, the 73 story Karlatornet, under construction. Interestingly he is designer for low income housing as well as for the elite. He loves diving into archives and looking into the history of buildings. This makes it possible for him to appreciate the old with the new, combining and bringing in a dialogue with the past into his contemporary designs. He can be original and capable of reimagining. He built a summer house in the Stockholm archipelago entirely of plywood and marble. Another of his innovations is in working downstairs from his office, which gives him proximity to get ready for a meeting or go down for a quiet lunch.  During architecture school he reveals in his new book that he was diagnosed for brain cancer. This excellent article by Peta Bee looks at how we can do anti-ageing efforts to keep our immune systems strong as we become older. She looks at work by an expert in immune cell biology, Janet Lord, who is head of the Institute for Inflammation and Ageing at Birmingham University. It is now proven that the link between ageing and immune systems can be guided in constructive ways. At sixty and seventy years age one can have the immune system of a 30 year old by doing a couple of simple things which are covered here from taking 10,000 steps a day, high intensity interval training on some days each month, occasional fasting on some days, high fibre diet and vitamin D. Walking, running or other forms of exercize affect a particular form of immune function called neutrophil movement in positive ways. Neutrophil movement because these cells are the main defense against the forms of bacteria that cause pneumonia. Neutrophils in older adults behaved in ways similar to that found in 30 year olds when doing 10,000 steps a day of exercize. Dr. Lord and other researchers have found. Dr. Jenna Macciochi, a lecturer in immunology at the University of Sussex, says about 70% of our immune system resides in our gut, making gut health very important for our immunity. Macciochi is the author of Immunity: The Science of Staying Well. Important for gut or gastrointestinal health is the eating of food that has prebiotic and probiotic effect. This helps reverse the decline of immunity coming with ageing.When we chew down on fibre in vegetables, fruit, beans or lentils we have beneficial byproducts called postbiotics that act as an interface between diet and immunity, that change the personalities of cells and circulate in our blood for regulation of immune system, says Dr. Macciochi. Postbiotics from eating dietary fibre tune up specific virus fighting cells that help us fight infections from flu and viruses, studies show says this report in The Times. Women in the UK get only 17g per day, men 20 mg per day of fibre. We need 30 mg per day of fibre and to do this we need to increase our intake of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, seeds and pulses. Also important is avoiding the inflammation that comes with ageing called inflammageing, says Dr. Macciochi. To do this do resistance training, weights, or using body weight such as lunges, push ups, squats. When our muscles move we produce hormones called myokines that help our immune cells function and keep inflammation down. She believes strength work is an absolute essential to rejuvenate our immune age. ...

The Air France strike ends after 2 weeks, with the government deciding not to step in with a mediator. Air France says it will continue its strategic plan to expand budget airline Transavia, though Air France pilots would not be required to fly for Transavia. About 250 Transavia pilots will be hired as part of overall hiring of 2000 new employees, and the pilots will fly longer hours at less pay than the current pay and hours of Air France pilots. About 35 single-aisle Boeing 737 jets will be added for Transavia. No Transavia base of operations will be setup outside Netherlands and France, such as ones planned for Portugal to reduce costs. About 40% of the European air travel market is now with budget airlines. The strike cost Air France about $25 million a day for 2 weeks.

He brings a clear headed common sense approach and has the support of the Social Democrats and the Green Party in its investment program to rebuild the German economy. The media focuses on AfD yet it misses the point that fully 57% of voters back Merz and Kingbeil, that the AfD reached its high point at 20.8 percent of vote with the offset of the Left parties at 16 percent of voters and with Merz's policy on stopping all illegal migration. Merz moved quickly to remove the constitutional debt brake set by Merkel and had parliament pass a budget that supports modernization of infrastructure on a big scale. ...

Kashmiri shawl weavers were mostly women. Mechanization has pushed many from earning their livelihoods from the shawl industry. New ways are being found to revive the older shawl weaving methods and give Kashmiri women an opportunity to work and be financially independent. A lot can be learned from the French who have a thriving industry using hand weaving with new technology and marketing techniques for hand woven fabrics using new designs. Some of these French companies could actually collaborate with Kashmiri makers to relaunch this industry in a new way and employ many women in making shawls and other specialty fabric designs. This manufacture would also command higher prices in a niche market segment in India and in world markets.

During the Biden presidency something else happened the pandemic which made people feel worse and compare the preceding president's inflation rate at 1.9% compared to 5.7% average per year. 5.7% adds up to about 23% increase over 4 years. The worst part was that basic food items eggs, bread and other groceries may have been priced at much more than 23%, and with added burden of higher monthly rent as landlords increased rent by much more than 23%. This meant dipping into savings and money saved for a house, destroying the American dream.
