The Economist looks at the summary of the Mueller Report. The special counsel did not find that the Trump campaign was in collusion with the Russian government in its interference in the 2016 election. 

The Economist points out that Mr. Mueller accomplished the task of cleaning political campaigns of corruption and other questionable behaviour. In the case of Mr. Manafort campaign manager, and Roger Stone, the president's lawyer, Mr. Mueller's investigation set the precedent of how such investigations would take place in the future.  The investigation also looked into candidates business interests, including building a skyscraper in Moscow. This editorial says Mr. Mueller's conduct was exemplary.

British prime minister Theresa May's EU withdrawal agreement was defeated in the House of Commons by a vote of 344 to 286, a margin of 58 votes. 5 Labour MP's voted in favor, and 34 Brexiteer MP's in the European Research Group voted against. The Democratic Unionist Party of Northern Ireland voted against. The vote did not include a declaration on the future relations with the European Union. The vote happened on March 29, the deadline for Britain to leave the EU. A new deadline of April 10 has been set to seek a longer extension.

Options going forward are to use a longer delay of a year to come up with consensus, have a second referendum, or hold a general election. Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn called for Mrs. May to resign and hold a general election. Britain will hold European parliament elections in May.

Nissan Motor Company CEO Hiroto Saikawa confirms that Nissan executives passed on information from a probe to Japanese authorites so that plans for a Renault takeover of the company could not take place. Mr Ghosn was seen as pushing a plan for a full combination of Renault with Nissan. Their motivation this report says was to protect Nissan and protect Japan's industry. In April 2018 the French government with a 15% stake in Renault laid out plans for a merger.

Nissan sells more cars than Renault but has a smaller stake in Renault. Renault owns 43.4% of Nissan after a 1999 bailout deal when Nissan sought help. Nissan holds only 1 15% nonvoting stake in Renault. Hence the imbalance. The alliance has benefited Renault because of the dividends from Nissan shares and sharing of auto parts and designs. Japan is seen as a very prideful nation according to Nissan executives who wanted to protect Nissan from takeover.

Attorney General Barr issues a 4 page summary of the 300 page Mueller Report on investigation into interference in the 2016 election campaign. Democrats in Congress, including the Judiciary Committee chairman Mr. Nadler called for the release of the complete report to Congress and the public.

Ukraine's general election in March 2019 comes at a time of very low confidence in government. Only 9% have confidence in the government dropping from the 24% at the time of the 2014 protests. The problem is mainly corruption with the Wold Bank pointing out that politically connected firms control about 20% of the revenue and 25% of the assets. The major candidates Ms Tymoshenko a former president, and Mr. Poroshenko current president have about 18% support. A comedian with a television show in its third year called "Servant of the People" has about 25% support, and is leading in the polls. Lack of political experience was not an issue.The hope raised five years ago have not been realized as Ukraine suffers from crony capitalism and corruption. The war in the east has affected Ukraine's economy. Since 2013 average wages have fallen 20% to $320 a month and gas prices have gone up 8 times during a period of the conflict with Russia. The 2014 protests led to the fall of a Russian backed government, Russia taking over Crimea, and the war in the east with separatist rebels. Mr. Poroshenko's government has failed to move quickly to tackle major problems in the economy. ...

The British parliament's petitions website crashed because of the high volume of petitions calling for revoking Article 50 and remaining in the European Union. In December the European Court of Justice ruled that UK can unilaterally revoke Article 50 the basis of leaving the UK, and decide to remain in the European Union. 

The petition currently has 700,000 signatures. Off to a slow start in first week, once it picked up the dam burst as frustrated Britons added their support. In January the petition calling for EU to revoke Article 50 got 371,000 signatures.

Liberal Democrat and Labour MP's joined in support till parliament's site crashed with overload on the system.

In a meeting charged with emotion Theresa May says she will not run again as a way to get support from a pro-Brexit MP's faction in her party that includes Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees Moog. Some members of this faction support exiting the EU even if it means no-deal is reached on future relations between the EU and Britain including agreement on membership in the customs union.

Attorney General Barr provided a short summary of the 300 page report. The Judiciary chairman of the House is calling for the release of the entire report to the public.

Theresa May's statement that parliament bears responsibility for the Brexit impasse is seen as an attack on parliament by MP's from both the Conservative Party and the Labour Party. May needs support of about 25 Labour MP's to make up for loss of Brexit hardliners, but has support of 3 MP's in the last vote in parliament. Her statement was seen as divisive and alienated all sides in parliament, the BBC reports.

An agreement for a aircraft purchase order of 300 jets is signed during Chinese president Xi Jinping's visit to Paris. China Aviation Supplies Holding Company and Airbus sign an agreement for purchase of 290 A320 planes and 10 A350 XWB jets. The deal is worth $30 billion. President Jinping also visited Italy where Italy signed on to the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative.
