It has just become hugely undervalued in the last 4 decades leading to some of the gaps we find in better grasp of economics, politics, physics, science, law, business, that have led to the Nation's relative decline since the 1980's. Hank Paulson, Treasury Secretary, Angelo Giamatti, Baseball Commissioner, Steven Spielberg, movie producer, Clarence Thomas at the US Supreme Court, Anne Mulcahy, CEO of Xerox, Mario Cuomo, governor of New York, and Harold Varmus Nobel prize winner in 1989 in medicine for his finding how genes origin in normal healthy cells that transform healthy cells into cancer cells, all had degrees in English. And many brought this passsion for language into other fields by adding degrees in law, medicine, science, other fields. How one can combine English with science is seen in the extraordinary example of the first American woman in space Sally Ride who had a degree in English alongside a degree in physics in 1973 and went on to get a PhD. in physics in 1978 from Stanford University. ...

His background in English literature and well grounded in his home region gives him the kind of character and humility which would deal with foreign leaders not on the basis of ideology but of mutual respect in what he shares in the best ideals of public service with others. Charles as King of Britain did not approach his visit as monarch, but as a leader for the public good in many ways and many aspirations, which provided a sure bonding with American people and the members of US Congress, and DJT. By following the best ideals of public service of America's founders and the best that Britain has to offer over centuries Burnham can chart a new path for Britain and the US in cooperation with allies in Asia (the India Japan Partnership of 1.5 billion people combining Japanese technology with India's ambition), and allies in the European Union. ...

WSJ looks at a washing machine factory set up in Newberry, South Carolina. It generated 1500 well paying factory jobs. It also generated $1 million in added tax revenues every year for investment in Newberry schools and public services. When multiplied thousands of times for 51 states this adds up to billions of dollars into schools and public services, transportation in the 51 states. Add to this the restaurants and other small businesses that are supported by 1500 workers and their families this creates additional jobs of 2 or 3 times the 1500 jobs created with additional tax revenues from these workers. This is also how America reached a higher standard of living after 1945 than any other country. The higher prices come from paying American workers higher wages than in a third country in Asia. And from the point of view of the thousands of such communities in 51 states in America this is overall a massive win compared to the destruction of such factory supported communities and destruction of American manufacturing itself. Some of the higher prices are paid by city dwellers in major metropolitan centers who have much higher incomes than rural and small town communities where factories are located which are easily borne considering the benefits they enjoy of a secure supply chain, and a better educated workforce, a better educated citizenry in the country they live in. These costs and benefits are rarely counted to bring all the hidden costs and hidden benefits into the equation in many economic analysis that give no value to the national interest and the importance of communities across the entire US rural, small town and urban.  ...

How the grandiose visions of Saudi new cities in the desert are being reset after the war, and the people in the poorest countries are being faced with higher prices for food, fuel and fertilizer when they can least afford it in 2026. The media focus has been on the Hormuz without saying, A. -that now with the Omani route added to the Iranian route in Hormuz a new defacto 2 route Hormuz is setup by the US Iran agreement. B.- that China has already reset its energy policy to do without the 3 million barrels a day it got through Hormuz, India has already setup new oil supplies from Venezuela, Japan is working out new arrangements, US is creating incentives for oil companies to produce in other regions of the world. And C.- the renewable energy policies, how much energy to use per unit of GDP under effcient use, is being accelerated in EU, India, China and Japan, and indirectly also in the US as cost of renewables comes down compared to fossil fuels. These will be constructive aspects of the situation. The world also shifts away from the Middle East a source of decades of wars that brought down the Soviet Union, destroyed some economies in South Asia (Afghanistan, Pakistan), created the distraction for the US that led to letting its infrastructure and economy to weaken, and destroyed the economic and social fabric in many parts of the Arab world and North Africa (Libya, Iran, Iraq, Syria). It closes a chapter of the Middle East from which lessons can be drawn for a focus on economic development and using science and technology to improve living standards of the people of the world, to tackle climate change, and for peaceful cooperation of major nations. ...

China's industrialization, urbanization, and modernization was not achieved without the same struggles since 1990. Because years of colonization and wars, conflicts, China and India had fallen so far behind that even when industrialization, urbanization and modernization took place there was always the fear that it could be derailed by protests over the very same thing that the industrialization and modernization was doing to get- good jobs. Populations are so large that tens of millions, or hundreds of millions are involved. China carefully monitored the protests and sought to defuse this in the interests of the 1.4 billion people of China. Yet China was industrializing in the second effort- the first effort being suppressed by the Imperial Japanese Army in the 1930's. China was industrializing with much support from the US by the 1990's, upto the point that the Clinton and Obama administration let America's supply chain be shipped to China to let China advance after centuries of suffering and backwardness. Coming back to India- India is facing the same situation with some special characteristics. What are these special characteristics? The social media and mobile phones were not an ubiquitous presence in the  hundreds of millions including you tube (Google) video, and Instagram (Meta) photos during China's industrialization period 1990-2020. Even then China faced some risky periods when it monitored the situation so that industrialization would not be derailed. It is thought that somehow an elected government in China would then after protests push forward the industrialization. But this is a risky proposition most likely it would have failed first by a break up of the unity of China, second by the lack of a concerted disciplined strong effort to industrialize, modernize. Third corruption could diminish the funds and investment without a strong centralized government. If China's industrialization had collapsed as a result after protests,  media in US and Europe, the political and educated class of the US and Europe would simply shrug it off as China's fault and the Asian societies as a riddle wrapped in an enigma unable to progress. This is true of India also and one can see it happening, including participation by the same media in making that happen. Without the vigilance of China's government in 1990-2020 and today for Vikshit Bharat 2047 by India's government industrialization and modernization would never happen. This is because no democratic government could establish as strong a government needed to push through industrialization and modernization of thousand years old countries stuck in feudalism and colonization poverty, and incapable of achieving a continuous undistracted determined effort over 25-30 years. Only Britain with its Empire's resources was able to do this, and the US with its vast natural resources because of a long tradition of the Anglo-Saxon peoples in democratic forms of government. Under democratic forms of government if that route was adopted China's industrialization and modernization would have failed and ended up with a divided China and a weak China with slow, erratic economic progress. What about India? India has some chance because unlike China India had a 25 year period to prepare for democratic forms of government through elected state assemblies from 1920's to 1950. China had none, worse regional warlords and Japanese invasion in 1920-1950. What this means is that for India to succeed to create Vikshit Bharat, a modernized economy, a miracle is needed for a strong centralized party government to appeal to the people and win state elections, national elections on a nationalist call. And at the same time after winning such state elections to know that hundreds of years of self neglect, internal conflict and colonization was hard to reverse even through determined effort- gaps between jobs needed and jobs existing would exist for population of 1.4 billion in the tens of millions. The central government had to have its ears close to the ground and explain what it was doing, where it had fallen short and with humility and reflection correct course where needed. This is what the Modi government has done by having the Minnister of education resign, and taking corrective actions on the genuine concerns of protestors. And yet Explain to the Indian people that only rapid industrialization could create the jobs needed, the protestors genuine concerns could be met but nothing would be achieved if the industrialization process at the heart of things was allowed to be derailed. That would mean a disaster for India- and the Indian people could not risk the possibility of this happening after centuries of colonization and thousand years of neglect, feudal patterns, and divisions in society. Would US and Europe even understand this, would they even care? This is reflected in the coverage of the protests over education and jobs in DW.com, the Times of London, the WSJ, the NYT, and generally in the media. Would the jobs increase somehow after the protests- this entirely depends on rapid industrialization, large investments, strategic investments, and smart access to capital and technologies from US and Europe. The Modi government has given its all- clean governance,  determined effort, massive investments, ten year plan and master plan, rapid implementation. There will still be a lack of jobs but this is the best hope for India, as it was for China. Like China, India if it perseveres can only repeat the process that has happened in Japan and China since the 1950's - rapid progress to modernization and industrialization for Vikshit Bharat 2047. The Modi government has one by one tackled, the challenge of Clean Governance, Pandemic, DJT Tariffs, the Hormuz crisis, in the last decade in an unflinching effort to stay focused on creating an industrialized modern Indian economy with higher standards of living, jobs, the best infrastructure, best health care, and jobs for the millions turned out by schools and colleges. Hundreds of millions of people are being pulled out of poverty and the middle class is growing. Just when the pace of industrialization is accelerating to achieve the aspirations of the Indian people, in some places it may fall short, the growing pains of a massive effort, efforts are being made to fix shortcomings, yet the focus is unrelenting on Vikshit Bharat 2047 in stages to 2030, 2040, 2047.   ...

The Bee Network launched in late 2023 is the first integrated transport system outside London. Bus routes are set and franchised by the mayor, Andy Burnham, and fares combined for trams. There is 7% increase in miles, 14% increase in journeys, 740,000 people a fourth of Manchester region population benefitting. British Steel was privatized in 1988. In Asia British Steel and US Steel were revered during the colonial period to the 1950's and 1960's. In the US and UK strangely economic theories took hold that did not see the importance of steel and other basic industries in the life of a nation and its people. About 40 years later the lessons of outsourcing your main supply chains has been learned at great cost to the US and the UK. Note that in today's WSJ an Exclusive report shows the success US steel has become with government help and American tariff protection agiainst dumped steel from China and India. US Steel has grown till it is now the third largest steelmaker in the world. The UK government is nationalizing Scunthorpe plant now given name British Steel under the Steel Industry Nationalization Act. UK has set aside 2.5 million pounds for subsidies to the Scunthorpe and Port Talbot plants for modernization of old pre-1960's plants. This is the right move, if US Steel is a success story with DJT tariffs and government support, British Steel will be a success story with the same kind of support. And contrary to bad economic theory purveyed by some economists the US and UK can now have their own modern steel industries and supply chains at home. ...

UK Reform Party has taken large donations from cryptocurrency companies. Reform leader Nigel Farage has received a 5 million pound gift from a cryptocurrency firm. What does this mean for cryptocurrency regulation in the UK as a world financial center, if Reform wins a general election and appoints the next Governor of the Bank of England when Andrew Bailey retires in 2028. This is discussed in The Guardian. The banking system of the US, UK and large countries was set up over many years and currency is only issued by a central bank with the financial backing of the nation. Cryptocurrency cannot on the basis of technology take that role without posing risks and destabilizing the financial system. The gradual splitting of society by the information economy, neglect of infrastructure, pharmaceutical pricing, banking speculation as in 2009 crisis, have been eroding some of the basic structures of democracy for the last two decades from within.  The wars in the Middle East policies, and the open borders migration policies, were effects from outside. What this has led to is counter to what one would expect. To fight open borders and the marginalization of some parts of the working class DJT Republicans have used whatever resources were available at the time in the 2024 presidential election. The cryptocurrency firms used this in opportunistic fashion to affect regulation of this currency by supporting the reelection bid of DJT in 2024 by making large donations. This has led to less regulation of cryptocurrency firms. Is this in the best interests of the Nation? Will this destabilize the banking system in ways that have happened before in the deregulation of banks before the 2009 financial crisis? In Britain a new Bank of England governor will be appointed after Andrew Bailey's term expires in 2028. Reform party in UK if elected as government would appoint the next Governor of the Bank of England. Reform's growing popularity is a result of Conservatives and Labour failing to take action on open borders, asylum hotels, and migration policy, following an ECHR code of rights that is inappropriate to such migration. What this means is that unexpected things happen as a result. Cyrptocurrency risks of destabilizing the banking system increase as a result of failure of parties on migration. This could be more destabilizing for Britain because of its role as a financial centre than the industrialized  economies such as Germany, China, and industrializing economies such as India. It poses risks in the US yet Federal Reserve Governor Walsh can exercise his own judgement about cryptocurrency and Congress can exercise oversight, the large banks can act to show the risks of destabilizing that cryptocurrency can pose. For Britain it is particularly dangerous as the US is also an industrialized power compared to Britain's focus on finance alone. Andrew Bailey can ignore lobbying by Reform Party in 2026 (Farage met with the Governor of the Bank of England), yet what happens if Reform appoints the next Governor in 2028? These are questions Britain needs to ponder. It is also why Andy Burnham is Britain's last chance to get things right on migration to the point that the British people feel good and proud of their heritage and history, British neighborhoods across the country feel safe and secure, and Britain shifts to reindustrialize its economy with partners in China and India, the European Union, and the US. A former Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, Sir Charlie Bean told the BBC about donations of Christopher Harbonne, who has a 13% ownership interest in cryptocurrency firm,Tether. "Stablecoins are only stable if they have the appropriate regulatory environment… But there is right now an unsurprising regulatory race to the bottom amid the potential for greater profits." He added: "When funds are coming from major shareholders of such large financial institutions, there is a clear potential conflict of interest here, for example, in the appointment of a new Bank of England governor.
