He passed away in Ahmedabad at the age of 95. Most people hae not heard the name Radhabinod Pal the sole dissenting judge at the Allied Tribunal who questioned its legitimacy in a dissenting opinion. Here we learn that Judge Pal's opinion sealed a friendship between him and Abe's grandfather Nobusuke Kishi charged with war crimes but never tried. Mr Abe visited the Netaji Subhas Bose museum in Calcutta and said that he was determined to strengthen Japanese Indian bilateral relations that Bose wanted to see. Appears to be an emotional bond and a visit that aroused old feelings from a family tie for Abe. Note that India and Japan vowed to seal a economic partnership by December. P.T. Usha chairs the upper house of the Indian parliament at the request of vice president Dhankar. She tells Sansad TV in an interview that she was nervous and thought to herself how could a sportsperson handle such an assignment. After chairing the session she now says she feels grateful for the experience given to her, one that will now enable her to take up issues of encouraging sports in the country. During the early days she says she use to run along the rail tracks on the sea shore in Kerala as there were no running tracks as there are today. She wants to see India compete effectively in sports at the Olympics as the head of the Indian Olympic Committee.

Indian finance minister Sitharaman announces Rs. 60 billion ($857 million) in equity for the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund to provide Rs. 1000 billion  ($14.2 billion) debt financing for infrastructure to 2025. This is part of a wide ranging stimulus 3.0 package for creating jobs, providing aid to borrowers during the pandemic, aid to farmers, and aid for the informal economy including street vendors and small retail. Friedman reviews Acemoglu and Robinson's new book, "Why Nations Fail." Acemoglu says that nations fail when wealth and opportunities are concentrated in the hands of few people, that a condition for societies to succeed is to create opportunities for more people. For this to happen it is important to create inclusive political and economic institutions. This is an important insight, but for Western society this is an insight as old as Adam Smith when he pointed out the importance of this aspect of western societies after the feudal period in his "Wealth of Nations." For Smith it was the failure to create inclusive societies that led to the gradual unravelling of societies in the river valleys of the Yangste and the Ganges, in China and India, of increasing poverty and the gradual disappearance of what constituted the middle class in India and China. Chapter 8 titled "Of Wages and Labor" in the "Wealth of Nations" makes specific reference to this.

Saudi East West 750 mile Pipeline from east coast fields to west coast at Yanbu port- capacity 7 million barrels a day with average 4-5 million loading each day in April 2026. About half of this goes to India and China. It is critical supply point for the Saudis now that Straits Hormuz is restricted. The UAE has pipeline to Fujairah which it seeks to double capacity by 2027 from 1.8 million barrels a day to 3.6 million barrels a day. UAE has left the OPEC cartel that limits supplies and sets prices, which makes this critical for the US to ensure oil prices remain at levels that are moderate. UAE now favors lower oil prices while the Saudis objective is to keep prices high.

India's central bank RBI's efforts to hold back inflation. Minimum export prices set for Basmati rice and import tariffs removed on edible crude oil are steps taken bythe Indian government. The RBI for its part raised the proportion of deposits banks keep as cash with the central bank to 8% last month and this is expected to take 185 billion rupees from the banking system according to experts. The first phase of the increase goes into effect April 26, the second phase May 10, 2008. The RBI holds its annual monetary policy review April 29, 2008 and most anlaysts expect it to hold rates steady.

The vehicle scrapping policy gets more financing in the 2023 Indian budget. This will have the effect of increasing car sales and jobs as newer cars, buses and other vehicles are put on the road. By increasing electric vehicles it is a fight for climate change prevention. The simple act of removing fossil fuel guzzling older vehicles with newer fuel efficient vehicles cuts oil use and cuts oil import costs. Doing this on scale is what will help in the fight for climate change. In just one move India will remove about 1 million buses, trucks and transport vehicles used by federal and state governments by April 1, 2023.

India's greatest runner Milkha Singh describes his life and struggles in this interview in the Indian Express written by Nihal Koshie. Much of his early life was spent in poverty and facing partition, running for his life seeing his parents dead in the riots in Pakistan part of Punjab.

He worked very hard, so hard that he hardly sees this type of effort today. If he had the facilities and training received by athletes of today Milkha says he would be able to set records that no one could break in a hundred years. With so little he achieved so much.

Problems facing the energy industry in India include lack of coal supplies to use all of the existing electricity generation plants. Lack of investment and modernization in the coal industry is holding back tapping of large coal reserves. India is expected to see a huge surge in energy demand in the next twenty years, with the International Energy Agency saying India will need $1.6 trillion in investment in power generation, transmission and distribution through 2035, and $550 million investment in coal, oil and gas sectors.
