Google has come out firmly on the side of parents struggling to deal with schooling at home for children, with social distancing during the pandemic, as it supports working from home all the way till summer of 2021. For 200,000 full time and contract Google employees is sure to offer some relief.  Sundar Pichai the Alphabet CEO made the decision after a debate in Google Leads a small group of executives at the company.  Mr. Pichai told staff " I hope this will offer the flexibility you need to balance work with taking care of yourselves and your loved ones over the next 12 months."  He was especially concerned about parents trying to tackle schooling of children. The surge of the pandemic in California where Google is located is likely to have convinced Google executives that this was the right step, with no vaccine in sight, and the possibility of a second wave after this one. The British prime minister now goes for a run with his dog first thing in the morning. He says about his life after the coronavirus recovery that he is steadily building up his fitness. A quite gentle run in the beginning that is getting faster and faster as he improves his fitness.  One does not have to go to the gym to lose weight. There is always the great outdoors, space outside the home. As part of the effort to get Britain to cut all that unnecessary fat which is ruinous for healthy living, Britain will now ban all buy one get one free deals on unhealthy food products. All food in restaurants and pubs will soon be required to post the calories count on menus, starting with the bigger chains. Boris Johnson says he is supporting the NHS and the national campaign for fitness and cutting out all the unnecessary calories that have crept into people's food habits and intake. He never intended this but Johnson like others have learned from one experience that has compressed several lifetimes of experience trying to recover from the virus without the fitness of body that is needed.      ...

The search for a vaccine, other problem solving at the individual, small group, and national level, can be done in this way. For the vaccine there is the added factor of time- how quickly can we do this? The Oxford vaccine works with an approach that has worked for other types of coronavirus in the past research efforts, what component can be changed or inserted so that a tested approach can be used instead of starting from scratch in this case.

Airlines are not taking delivery of planes from Airbus and Boeing as travel on airlines remains restricted by a surge in the coronavirus cases in July 2020. Boeing delivered only 20 aircraft in the second quarter down from 90 in the same quarter in 2019. Airbus delivered 74 jets in the second quarter down from 227 in the prior year. This is straining finances for Airbus and Boeing. This affects suppliers such as engine maker GE.

More flexible attitudes about how lives can be lived and independent attitudes are leading to more people in Japan doing things alone on their own. For people to travel, go to concerts or events alone, and take part in other activities alone, is becoming more acceptable in Japan, a country where doing things together was once the only way. About 50% of people in Japan now do things independently, as society changes and demographics adds another factor of single people in retirement. The term used for this is ohitorisama in Japan. There is even karaoke for one person on his own, and eating by oneself at a restaurant or at work is now ok, quite acceptable.

The Robert Koch Institute reports rise in daily infections from around 500 to over 800 a day on one day last week.  This is seen as a second wave after the economy reopened. The reproduction rate is up to 1.08 from 0.93, so that on average one infected person passes the virus on to one other person.

Mexico does 3 tests per 100,000 people very low compared to other countries. Reasons range from cost cutting to a push for herd immunity. Instead Mexico has pushed through deep cost cutting. The U.S. has 178 tests per 100,000 in comparison. This leaves Mexico running blind as it has reopened the economy. The government says half of Mexicans work in the informal economy and the economy needs to remain open. Not doing testing means there is less information on fighting the virus in the way it was done in Italy, Spain, UK, France and Germany. Other countries with a large informal economy are doing as getting as many as 500,000  samples a day for tests. Mexico now has 360,000 cases and its fatality rate is now approaching that of the UK.

Parliament adopted reform that allows citizens to have 10% of pension savings paid out as emergency coronavirus aid. Latin America has no aid funds in the way aid is given in the U.S. and in the European Union, and in Britain, leaving people dangerously exposed during the pandemic. Chile was presented as a much more affluent country but this no longer holds true. This DW.com report says the government remains overwhelmed and helpless in the face of the pandemic and internal protests that started over pension inadequacies and subway price hikes, lack of healthcare services.

ICMR also has a vaccine that could be ready by India's Independence Day of August 15. One of the vaccines is for the elderly. India makes 60% of the world's vaccines giving it much experience in manufacturing that is needed today.
