At the G7 meeting in Washington of finance ministers efforts to pitch Gordon Brown's plan to other G7 members. The British idea to expand its proposal to other countries has a lot of support on Wall Street and is being studied by officials at Treasury and US government officials. Under the British plan the government would guarantee upto 250 million pounds ($432 billion) in bank debt maturing in 36 months. It is also injecting capital into British banks in exchange for equity stakes. The government is also considering removing a ceiling on deposit insurance giving essentially unlimited protection to bank deposits to protect investors and banks seeing withdrawals from scared investors.

He particularly respects the reporter Maggie Haberman, a reporter with whom Trump has a long relationship and whose reporting he respects. Haberman is seen by Trump as an influential political reporter, whose view counts, and who can be critical but also seeks to be fair in reporting. During the election campaign the NYT carried reporting critical of Trump, yet it also had reporters who were critical of Hillary Clinton. In many ways both the NYT and the WSJ from different points of view seek a place in the middle with fair reporting, needed particularly in today's politics where ideology sometimes trumps common sense and U.S. traditions of fairness.

Democrats are acting as though the party is for low income Americans and labor yet this is not the party of FDR who fought hard for labor over vested interests, Democrats today are the vested interests whether from Tech which is taking a disproportionate share of the Nation's wealth and resources and pouring it into projects that do not reduce the cost of living or rebuild crumbling obsolete infrastructure, or from Banks which were not sanctioned for their part in the 2009 financial crisis, or from healthcare interests that oppose restructuring the entire healthcare system for fairness in insurance, pharmaceutical pricing and wellness. Republicans are making an effort to displace Democrats in the role of FDR and Lincoln under newcomer DJT who rejects both the incompetent Bush (Republican) and Obama (Democrat) administrations that wasted money and resources in foreign wars while overlooking America's many challenges and strengthening foreign powers including China, while weakening the US. The US government is cutting airport traffic to relieve unpaid traffic controllers. Also at risk are SNAP benefits which are for the loew income Americans. The US president is asking the Senate to drop the filibuster rule which requires 60 votes in the Senate for the biudget to pass it and pass it by majority vote. The Senate Majority Leader Republican Thune wants to keep the filibuster because it acts as a brake for hasty legislation passed by whichever party is in government. ...

He also faced opposition after Defense Secretary Esper was replaced and he served as assistant to the new Defense Secretary, in appointment to the FBI, by then Attorney General William Barr. Kash Patel actively campaigned for DJT during the 2024 campaign. He finds traits in political leaders in government to be emotional security, political judgement, a sense of humility as being part of a larger purpose in God's world, and the ability to overcome major setbacks. He sees today's claims of candidates to being outsiders or having business experience as a spurious and false story line.

Stanley Fischer, former head of the Bank of Israel, is the likely candidate for vice chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve in 2014. Fischer is author of a 1977 paper in which he supported an activist central bank monetary policy to tackle economic downturns. As deputy director of the IMF he helped build the "Washington Consensus," which supported flexible exchange rates, free capital flows and balanced budgets. The IMF austerity policies came under much criticism in S. The closing of Project Thunderdome, a project to provide national and foreign articles to 75 newsrooms of Digital First Media Holdings newspapers. The decision was made by private equity firm Alden Global Capital. Digital first newspapers include Detroit News, Denver Post and Salt Lake Tribune. The idea was to consolidate the newsroom. Alden Global Capital gave as the reason cutting costs, and local being where the revenue was generated. In the journalism industry such efforts are being increasingly viewed with skepticism as hedge fund or private equity are focussed on the short term, make abrupt decisions, and are not willing to invest over longer periods the way Amazon founder Bezos is able to do at The Washington Post.

Axelrod says Washington DC talks to itself and whips itself into a frenzy with its own theories, that are completely at odds with what the rest of America is thinking. Cable TV can be misleading he suggests, and its almost like living in a parallel universe. This happened he says before the Iowa primary, and situations like this ocurred after some of Hillary Clinton's primary wins, and before the election when the Hillary vote was expected to go to McCain. In each situation people counted Obama out, and were living in a parallel universe where they believed what they were saying to the exclusion of everything else.

A World Food Program report says India is home to over a fourth of the hungry people in the world, about 230 million people. Purnima Menon of the Food Policy Research Institute in Washington D.C., says India ranks below two dozen sub-Saharan countries on a Global Hunger Index. It ranks Madhya Pradesh, a state in central India, as somewhere between Chad and Ethiopia. And serious hunger and malnutrion persists in states that have done better in economic growth, like Gujarat and Maharashtra. The number of children suffering from malnutrition in 2009 is in the range of 42.5% in India compared to about 7% in China, according to figures cited by Rieff.

Donald Trump proposes a ban on Muslims entering the U.S. until U.S. authorites have figured out what is happening following the San Bernardino terrorist attack. A poll by PPP polling firm cited in The Washington Post, shows 30% of Republicans thinking Islam should not be legal in the U.S. and 21% not sure, showing how Trump is appealing to white working class Americans and their fears. Britain has opposed Russia since 1750 as it saw Russia as the threat to an Empire it was building in South Asia, in India that financially supported its Empire worldwide for 200 years till about 1950. Britain engaged in the Crimean War against Russia so that along with the French it could control Turkey and its Ottoman states in the Arab Middle East under the guise of trade. This effort was pushed back by Kemal Ataturk in the 1920's when he founded the modern state of Turkey in Ankara. ...
