The first flight on Mars will happen in April 2021 with the Ingenuity helicopter flying about one storey high for 60 seconds. It is part of the Perseverance mission rover that has already landed on the planet Mars. This video in WSJ shows how the Ingenuity helicopter was developed by NASA using a contractor Aeroenvironment which specializes in unmanned flight vehicles. The development process took 7 years and testing was done at the JPL Labs. JPL Labs has a vacuum space that can be filled with CO2 similar to atmosphere on MARS. 

Engineers doing the work for the helicopter say flight on MARS is challenging because of the thinner air. This will be a first in planetary flight compared to Wright Brothers first 120 second flight.

The best US cities for jobs is changing rapidly in 2021 after the spread of coronavirus. Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston lost jobs. Jobs shifted to hubs in the interior of the country as remote work changed the workplace. Salt Lake City in Utah, Austin in Texas, and Denver became new hubs with environments that included mountains, healthier living, quieter lifestyle, lower costs and efforts to attract employers. Tourist spots suffered with Orlando in Florida moving to 47th place in terms of jobs. The US lost 9 million jobs in 2020 changing how the jobs market in cities looks. The WSJ looks at the changes in this report. Tech hubs such as Raleigh in North Carolina, and San Francisco suffered decline as remote work created new opportunities for cities in the interior of the country. By contrast Salt Lake City was growing twice as fast from 2000 to 2017, and has increased in popularity with surrounding areas of Provo and Ogden in Utah. A 15% minimum corporate tax on large, profitable corporations is part of the global minimum corporate tax proposed by US central bank chairwoman Janet Yellen, and the tax proposed by US president Biden. The tax would not apply to companies making $100 million as earlier proposed. The threshold has been raised to $2 billion and affects the companies that have avoided taxes the most. This report says there are 45 such companies in the US.  A US Treasury report on the tax says "the 15% minimum tax is a targeted approach to ensure that the most aggressive tax avoiders are forced to pay meaningful tax liabilities." The Biden agenda on corporate taxes would raise more than $2 trillion over 15 years to pay for essential infrastructure renovation to replace decaying infrastructure in the US. This means roads, bridges, airports, ports, transit systems, electricity grid, broadband systems, school systems, health systems, would all be targets for investment for the first time in 50 years in a concerted drive. The tax drive would partly reverse the Republican Congress's 2017 reduction in corporate tax rate to 21% from 35%, boosting it to 28%. European Union countries such as Britain are also following similar policies after decades in which a race to the bottom led to the lack of funds to finance essential infrastructure rebuilding. As a result China which was a nation of bicycles back in the 1980's now has some of the newest infrastructure, while the US and the EU countries have what might be considered crumbling infrastructure badly in need for renovation. As the shift in mood to a competitive world not only in technologies but in infrastructure and ease of living happens there is more and more awareness of what has been lost in the last 40 years.  ...
