Air France is increasing the fuel surcharge on medium haul and long haul tickets. For example the fuel surcharge on a long haul flight from Paris to New York will be 91 Euros one way flight. Air France says it will cut the increase of 4 euros by half if oil price is stabilized over time to $100 a barrel and eliminate the increase if the price stabilizes below $95 a barrel. This is another approach to the rise in fuel prices. Airlines have the options of not investing in their business and in quality of service and letting it deteriorate as is happening in the US or one way or another transferring the cost of fuel increases to the customer directly through increasing fuel surcharges and maintaining the quality of their service and investing in their business.

Israel's Yesh Atid (there is a future) party came in second with 19 seats after the party of prime minister Netanyahu in Jan 2013 Israeli elecions. Yair Lapid helped organize the middle class protests for social justice in the summer of 2011. He founded the Yesh Atid party to fight for better opportunities for the struggling middle class. Many of the votes came from Tel Aviv. Lapid writes a column for the newspaper Yediot Aharonot under the title, "Where's the money?" He writes in the newspaper: "This is the big question asked by Israel's middle class, the same sector on whose behalf I am going into politics. Where's the money? His father is a Holocaust survivor from Budapest, Hungary, who went on to become Justice minister. Long drawn out bombing campaigns such as the US bombing of North Vietnam did not by itself provide results. However there is a difference when it comes to nuclear proliferation, which is a completely different proposition.  Which is also why DJT however he words it has got it right that the US as a world power has responsibilities. In fact being a world power means first and foremost responsibility, not some swaggering walk. It means that whose side you are on in regional conflicts stops when it comes to nuclear proliferation. There is also a deeper understanding of "western powers" as we argue here. The US has to be wary of "western powers" because it is a colonial era concept of the French and the British. Western civilization is the right concept and this includes Russia. What about China and India? China and India owe little to colonial powers, and everything to western civilization, the Enlightenment, the Renaissance and the scientific and Industrial Revolutions that have brought both into the modern world.  ...

Retirement in America 2026- what to watch out for- $6500 per month full time home health aide. There is  $45.8 trillion in US IRA's 401 (K)  in 2026. It was half that in 2015. People are saving more 8-12% of income. A lot of it invested in arget dated mutual funds. Yet older Americans, seniors are facing poverty- 15% in 2025 compared to 10.7% of older Americans living in poverty in 2021. cost of living has hit this group the hardest. Removing the tax on Social Security could be prescient, popular and fair for these Americans, as suggested by DJT. If invested well this $45 trillion could give the US leadership in investment for decades to come as it grows with good management of investments raising living standards and financing the Nation's rebuilding of infrastructure in all areas.

Governor Hochul of New York was only able to increase the minimum wage by 2 dollars in New York to $17, up from $15, by 2026 in New York City, Long Island and Westchester. It would go up to $17 in the rest of the state by 2027. Assembly Democrats had asked for $21 saying that Seattle and Los Angeles offered a higher minimum wage.  Future increases would be pegged to inflation.

Parliamentary group of the ruling LDP party elected Fumio Kishida, member of parliament from Hiroshima, as the new LDP leader and prime minister. He has called the abolition of nuclear weapons his life's work. His grandfather and father were both members of parliament. Kishida was elected in 1993 to the Japanese parliament, and was foreign minister under Shinzo Abe. He supports the Hiroshima baseball team and is said to be good when it comes to washing up and cleaning the bathroom. As a child he grew up in New York and pictures of that time show him at a school in Queens, New York as a child. This has given him a sense of social injustice. He shares this in his plans for Japan with Biden in the US and Scholz in Germany, a sense that there should be a reduction in the income gap, and support for low paid temporary workers, families with young children. He also shares with Biden and Scholz plans to invest hundreds of billions of dollars for renewal of the country- for renewal of US, Germany and Japan in the manner of the postwar renewal in the nineteen fifties. ...

Banks like the staus quo, streamlining regulation will be hard for the new DJT American administration, says Sheila Bair, former head of the US FDIC, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Deposit insurance is important for peace of mind of bank customers and the proper functioning of the banking system, particularly in a crisis. The recent Silicon Valley banking crisis required deposit insurance for the stability of the banking system. Bair who acted to protect the banking system in the 2009 financial crisis in the US, says banks prefer having multiple agencies so that they can choose which one works best for them.  Bair said recently- “Banks may complain, but at the end of the day, they like to have their own regulator they have a relationship with,” Bair said. “They like the status quo.” The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is one of the agencies that DJT administration and Republicans oppose. With only 2-3 vote margin for its majority in the House it will be difficult to get Congress to agree on changes to the staus quo. ...

Sheila Bair leaves behind a much stronger FDIC. William Isaac, a former FDIC chairman says she has had a positive effect on the agency by raising its profile and energy level. Under the Dodd-Frank financial reform legislation FDIC now has the powers to take over large complex financial institutions that are in serious trouble. Mr Gruenberg, who succeeds Ms Bair, has worked closely with her at FDIC. Jim Wigand, heads the new Office of Complex Financial institutions at the FDIC. One of the powers given by the legislation is for FDIC to have its examiners at financial firms to go over operations, providing backup supervision to the Federal Reserve and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. According to FDIC officials analysts should be in place at financial firms the FDIC oversees during the next 12 months. The FDIC is also working on a rule requiring banks with assets larger than $50 billion and other large nonbank financial firms to provide a "living will," a plan that would help regulators speedily and cleanly wind down a firm in a future financial crisis. In March 2011 the FDIC approved a draft rule requiring firms to submit these plans, along with regular updates and reports on the firms' current credit exposure. Ms. Bair says the proposal will be completed in August. Bair has also put in place FDIC managers with considerable experience who can continue the work of strengthening the regulatory system she started in 2006.
