The former president having 81% of the vote for non college educated in the primaries and  small percentage of votes among college educated means that if elected it would be that a whole population of college educated people are being effectively disenfranchised in choosing the government. It means that democracy that took over 200 years to include people with less education and income in selecting a government has moved in 2024 to doing the opposite excluding the educated with all its implications for good government of such a lopsided state of affairs. A recent poll shows 81% of Haley's 250,000 votes in the Republican primary would not vote for the former president. Haley won moderates by 61% to 31%. Trump won those without a college degree by 82% to 13% for Haley. Trump support huge in rural areas, Haley's in the suburbs.This shows how different this Republican party is from that even as recent as 2015. In fact Gallup has found that in 1999 the Democratic party was a plus 14 percentage points for non college educated and in 2024 the Republican party is a plus 14 percentage points for non college educated. Among postgraduate educated the gap was 8 percentage points in 1999 and now has widened to where Democrats have 60% to Republicans 21%. ...

Britain turns to Labour as the lead for Labour party increases to 27 points after Sunak announces the general election will be held on July 4, 2024. What would a Starmer administration look like and how will it meet the expectations of Britain for generational change after the failure of Brexit, and 14 years of austerity policies that failed to invest in Britain and failed to deliver on infrastructure and housing? These are questions not easily answered as Britain's finances are left in a bad state by the Tories for Labour. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, says Russia's entry into the World Trade Organization in the summer of 2012 will be good for the global economy and for the U.S. It will increase U.S. exports to Russia from the low level of 1% of U.S. global exports. It will also set the right tone for improving U.S.-Russia relations and improving cooperation on global issues. She calls for Congress to change the Jackson-Vanik amendment and setting up normal trading relations between the U.S. and Russia. The thinktank Onward says a relatively small shift rightward on cultural issues would deliver for the Labour party a 1997 type of landslide at the next election. Today's 12 point lead for Labour is fragile and could be watered down to 4 points and an uncertain result. It says that people who are conservative on social issues and still favor Labour on economic and climate policy are the ones Labour should go for. They make up 61% of all voters in Britain and 78% of voters who would switch. Keir Starmer has a way through.

The chaos in Russia after the collapse of Communism led to fewer births during the 1990's and there are fewer people born during this period who are now of child rearing age. This has led to a further effect on childbirths after the earlier decade when population declined to 143 million.  Mr. Putin has offered incentives for child birth, improved hospital care, and incentive payments to new parents. Yet the war can have its own effects of reducing the sense of economic well being and opportunity that drops the level of childbirths. This is already confirmed by statistics showing a decline in childbirths in the first quarter of 2022. The Russian government and Mr. Putin see that Russia's position in the world depends on its population. Mr. Putin may have wanted to make up for the population decline by integrating parts of Ukraine such as eastern and southern Ukraine into Russia, says this FR24 report. It also shows that other factors such as population decline may have played a part in the invasion. It is a miscalculation according to the Biden administration and also from the perspective of many Russians who see Ukraine as a brotherly people speaking the same language and sharing culture and traditions. Russia's occupation of Poland for 2 centuries since the 1750's, and the region of western Ukraine near the Polish border such as Lviv about 100 miles from the Polish border  with Polish influence and distrustful of Russia, have led to pro-EU sentiment in Ukraine. This played apart in splitting opinion in Ukraine about Russia leading to the conflict. With Putin going by historical ties with Ukraine from the foundation of the Russian state in Kviv in 1000, and today's geographical realities after 2 centuries of occupation of Poland and the desire for options to join the European Union of a younger generation of Ukrainians. ...
