Following the pandemic and the war in Europe there is a shift in thinking all over America and the world, and the old politics simply don't fit in with this. The group of MP's says that the coronavirus pandemic has made all nations reassess their approach to trade and supply chains for security.

The foreign ministers of Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia meet in Riyadh March 22-24 to discuss ways to give more time before a US effort to open the Straits of Hormuz to shipping by a proposed attack on Iranian energy infrastructure as a last resort. Does the ICC, the International Criminal court have jurisdiction over US policy in the Western Hemisphere? The ICC was founded in 1998 with the Rome Statute which was signed by US president Clinton but never ratified. President Bush unsigned for the US and Congress passed the ASPCA American Servicemen's Protection Act to protect Americans in the armed forces from prosecution by ICC. The US sees the ICC as infringing on its sovereignty. As most UN institutions with members from 125 (ICC) or 193 countries (UN) the tendency or bias is to be critical of the US in a "anti-imperialist" sense and for European states that practiced colonialism to also have the same tendencies. For instance the Monroe Doctrine was to keep European colonial powers out of the western hemisphere, out of Latin America, so that institutions modeled on the US and the UK including democratic representation, courts and rule of law could thrive. In today's context it is for the US to keep drug trafficking gangs and crime out of the western hemisphere. The ICC easily ignores the lack of rule of law, drug trafficking, and millions of of refugees, in favor of single incidents where violation has not caused massive harm to tens of millions of people and enormous deaths such as the Mexican drug trafficking that has cost more lives from fentanyl than the Korean, Vietnam and World War 1 combined.  In fact without the US and the UK on which US institutions are modeled, much of the framework of civil liberties, rule of law, independent court, democratic representation would be lost.  The ICC is part of institutions that are answerable to no one and made up of the many independent states emerging from the colonialism of Europeans in the 20th century that have little experience in such institutions that are with science and industry the achievements of the modern world, and in many cases these new and numerous states are proof of egregious violations. It took many centuries for the UK to develop these institutions from the 16th century and the US from the 18th century, and it is American and UK institutions that are the foundations for protecting the rights of citizens and of the people in the modern world. ...

Both Johnson and Dominic Cummings his adviser had coronavirus, and Johnson spent some time in ICU. They know the impact of the coronavirus from their own personal experience.  For Johnson there is only one chance, Tory senior advisers say the public will forgive mistakes going into coronavirus, but will never forgive mistakes getting out of cotronavirus. He told Keir Starmer of Labour in parliament that he bitterly regrets what has happened in nursing homes. The scientists have warned him that the staff at nursing homes could seed communities once again. Grim warning from chief scientific and medical advisors to the British government that we are not through this yet, there is more ahead. Without strong action there could be 200 deaths a day and 50,000 cases a day, says Sir Patrick Valance, chief scientific adviser. Tens of thousands of deaths could happen in the winter and there is little prospect that restrictions can be lifted for the next 6 months. The chief medical officer to the government says if we do too little the virus is going to take off. Sir Patrick Valance said at a joint appearance with Whitty in Downing Street that if the virus doubles in 7 days, then if we have 5000 cases a day, it would be 10,000 the next week, 20,000 the next week and 40,000 a day the week after. In a month we could be near 50,000 a day. The vaccine the advisors said may be available to small groups by the end of 2020, only in the first half of 2021 will it be a likely scenario of it being available in widespread way. On protection they say most of us are not protected only about 6-8% may be protected in the hope that immunity is gained by having been infected and developing antibodies. We have to deal with it collectively for the next 6 months as it is now growing across the whole country, not just in some places or environments. Doing too little is dangerous and could let it take off speedily and affect hospitals again, doing too much so that unemployment is affected and poverty social deprivation happens is also to be kept in mind. ...

The world today is in a much better position to complete the transition to zero dependence on the volatile Middle East for oil. Today in 2026 the world's largest nations 1. US   2. China  3. India  4. Germany are all free of Middle East oil (India through waivers for Russian sources). European Union and UK is at about 12% which can be quickly substituted from the US+ Venezuela and other sources. US is self sufficient in oil and gas and exports oil to the UK, India, Germany and the European Union. Canada is self sufficient. Germany gets only 6% of its oil from the Middle East, the UK 12%, Spain 13% and Italy 14%. The Iran war is likely to shift more of the needs of UK, Spain and Italy to other more stable sources including oil from the US and Venezuela managed by the US, and other sources. This means that US policymakers can act in the best interests of all the nations of the world for preventing the spread of nuclear weapons and long range ballistic missiles. Germany is moving rapidly to renewable energy and this could bring its dependence on the Middle East to zero. India will meet its needs from Russia for the time being till it also shifts to oil from US+ Venezuela. India get 55% of its oil from the Middle East or about 2.7 million b/d. Russia was an important source of oil for India till the US trade agreement called for it to shift- a 30 day waiver and extension means India can get this oil from Russia without sanctions for the duration of the war. Reducing European demand and Indian demand frees up oil for Japan and South Korea on the world market the other 2 countries dependent on Middle East oil- Japan importing 95% of its oil consumption with imports of 2.5 million b/d and South Korea importing about 2 million b/d or 70% of its consumption. This means Japan and South Korea need a new strategy as they are overexposed to one source just as Germany was and learned a difficult lesson to diversify its sources. Japan has learned to reduce consumption for the same level of GDP and some of this can be through conservation, also tried in Germany in the last 4 years. During the 4 years. of Ukraine war Germany had to find ways to diversify sources Japan and South Korea will need rapidly to do the same in the Iran War. This means that only Japan and South Korea because of their lack of policy direction and vigilance have allowed this overdependence on the Gulf region,  (even as Germany diversified its sources, DJT and Israel were firm on nuclear weapons policy) they failed to see signs that they should diversify.
