The BBC's 100th anniversary is in 2022. It started life as a private broadcasting company in November 1922 after radio receiver manufacturers including the inventor Marconi set it up so that the new radio receivers could be distributed to the public. The radio receivers were of no use without content put out by a broadcaster. Over time the BBC played a major role in the British Empire during the 1930's and 1940's and in the British Commonwealth. It assume its modern form after the Second World War.

Xi sees the CCP, the Communist party of China, as carrying the mission of the May 14, 1919 Movement for modernization of China that spans the period of semicolonialism with China not much different from British India, and split into spheres of foreign influence, particularly British and Japanese, the May 14, 1919 Movement after the revolution of 1912 that ended the royal dynasty, the Japanese invasion and loss of tens of millions of lives, the founding of the People's Republic in 1949 under Mao, and the reforms of market economy under socialist rule under Deng. The twin banners of Science and Modernization of the May 4, 1919 movement kept high through the last 100 years are revived at the 20th Chinese CCP Party Congress in 2022. Xi Jinping used the phrase "self reliance in science and technology" five times as the US and EU gradually close the doors to shipping out advanced technologies to China, and limit flows of capital to concentrate on development at home. A new section was added to his report for "Science and Education."
Xi told the Congress- "We must regard science and technology as our primary productive force, talent as our primary resource, and innovation as our primary driver of growth."
