In a Senate hearing Dr. Fauci, head National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Dr. Redfield, head of CDC, and Dr. Hahn, head of the FDA, answered questions from U.S. Senators including committee chairman Lamar Alexander and Senator Murray. Dr. Fauci told senators that with some states reopening without meeting federal guidelines that include seeing an extended period of falling numbers of cases and deaths, "there is a real risk you could trigger an outbreak ... that could set you back rather than going forward."  Dr Fauci is concerned about the situation in the fall when schools and colleges reopen with possible spread. In other comments Robert Redfield the CDC head told the committee- "timely testing is vital to reopen America, increased contact tracing is critical." GPS and 3D would tell each plane the prcise location of other planes no need for all the radar towers and all that chattering back and forth. Look at the impact on gas mileage- just from this perspective it appears odd that the US government has not invested in modernization of the nations air traffic system's technology. The USA is today using outdated technology to mange its air traffic. Worst of all its costing a lot in wasted fuel and in extra emissions. GPS allows planes to fly straighter routes. Savings? On a NYCity to Boston flight this straighter route saves about 30% fuel, mileage and flight time. Thats huge savings benefiting airlines, passengers and the environment. These saving increase when you take out all the extra fuel consumed circlingin the skies as the descent is in steps. With NextGen the system the US is adopting will let a plane descend in a straight flight path with minimal engine thrust. Documents cited by German magazine Der Spiegel show the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) spying on the European delegation to the UN. An open letter to Britain's prime minister David Cameron published on Sept. 1, 2013 in Nordic newspapers, Sweden's Dagens Nyheter, Finland's Helsingin Sanomat, Denmark's Politiken, and Norway's Aftenposten, says: "We are deeply concerned that a stout defender of democracy and free debate such as the United Kingdom uses anti-terror legislation in order to legalize what amounts to harrassment of both the newspaper and individuals associated with it." The reference was to the Guardian newspaper which was asked to hand over Snowden document files to the British government. The Guardian newspaper destroyed computer equipment containing Snowden files after being pressured by the Birtish government. The open letter said Cameron's action "were undermining the position of the free press throughout the world." The issue of spying by the NSA has aroused strong sentiment in Germany and the Nordic countries because of memories of the period before 1945....

Even with a lower troop committment, the new costs of $ 1 million a year for each soldier, threaten to wipe out the $26 billion in savings from Iraq in 2010. The overall military budget could go up by 10% from a high of $667 billion under the Bush administration to $734 billion. Head of the House Appropriations Committee, David Obey, of Wisconsin, says that sending more troops to Afghanistan would drain the Treasury, and "devour virtually any other priorities that the President or anyone in Congress had." Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania head of a House subcommitte on defense appropriations says that a majority of the 258 Democrats in Congress would vote against any bill to pay for more troops.
