US inflation eases to 7.1% in November after the aggressive action by the US Fed under Jay Powell. The Labor Department reported that the CPI index was up 7.1% over a year ago. It peaked at 9.1% in June and was up 7.7% in October 2022. Gasoline prices which peaked at $5.26 a gallon in June are now at $3.50. Supply bottlenecks in June have also eased. Economists say there is still more room for inflation to fall as housing prices moderate and supply chains return to normal. A tight labor market and consumer purchases with higher wages have also fueled inflationary price increases.

Sam Bankman-Fried head of the cryptocurrency firm FTX is charged with fraud and arrested in the Bahamas, for what US federal prosecutors called a scheme to defraud crytocurrency customers and his hedge fund's lenders. The indictment was made by the US attorney's office for the Southern District of New York.

It was not football like as Messi later pointed out. "We suffered more than we should have done," says Messi after the game. After the penalty shootout the Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez sent a defiant look at the Dutch. A fracas ensued and Dumfries of the Nertherlands was given a red card. Both teams are being sanctioned by FIFA.

Susan Collins of the Boston Fed is concerned about the effects on unemployment. Kansas City Fed's Esther George is concerned about the Fed not staying in the fight against inflation long enough. Powell says "We wouldn't ... try to crash the economy.. and then cleanup afterwards. I wouldn't take that approach at all." The difficult aspect of the interest rate increases is that it takes about 1 year to know the full effects of rate increase.
