The higher US tariffs ranging from 41% to 345% on Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia will make it difficult for China to use these countries for factories that then dump highly subsidized product  (solar panels, other product) in US markets, at prices that are below production cost. India and the US are nearing a trade deal that gives India a chance to become a major manufacturing center for fair trade supplying the US. India will plan a partnership with US in which US goals and manufacturing are supported while at the same time making some parts at cost competitive with China.

Prime minister Modi spends the morning of his birthday at the Kunho National Park in Madhya Pradesh, a region known for its tigers. The cheetah population had disappeared in India and in this park over years of poor park management. Cheetahs were flown in from Namibia in Africa to Gwalior by special plane to give the cheetahs a new chance in their old habitat. Biodiversity is considered a big part of climate change action, in restoring habitat for animals in national parks a similar goal is achieved for restoring national parks.

A sanitary health expert Arne Panesar of the German Corporation for International Cooperation says for about six of ten persons in the world there are no sustainable sanitary systems for the waste. It is not enough he says to build toilets, equally important  is how the waste is treated and disposed. Prime minister Modi of India has stated that toilets are more important than temples in India and the goal is set for all Indians to have secure sustainable toilets in 2019.  Panesar says of Dacca, Bangladesh, that for its 16 million only 2% have securely managed sustainable sanitary provisions. Waste that is not treated and correctly disposed off ends up in streams and neighborhoods creating health hazards- diseases like cholera, typhus and polio thriving in such conditions. It is not clear says this report that sanitation needs can be met by even 2030. In India the focus is now not just toilet building but on on safe sanitary provisions to make health a priority, as well as women's education which suffers without adequate toilets. ...

Jack Draper of Britain joins the ranks of inspiring British sports athletes such as Brayshaw of the British women's Olympic rowing team who had suffered injuries in an accident to come back for the gold medal. Draper after suffering hip pain flareup and much preparation, hard work, gets to the finals of the Indian Wells Open to bean Rune of Denmark. Draper had no sign of nerves throughout his game. He had struggled in pre-season with flareups of hip pain. “I felt like I deserve it, in all honesty. The amount of adversity I’ve been through, the amount of sacrifices and time all the people around me have put in and the hard work, it’s an emotional feeling to know how much you’ve gone through and put in. To be here now and say I’m going to be No 7 in the world, honestly I can’t tell you how much that means to me.” Draper acknowledged the efforts of his team in a picture shown here in The Times. About his own effort Draper says- “I wasn’t expecting this. I put in a lot of work over time. I am just so grateful and so happy to be out there and able to play with my body feeling healthy and my mind feeling great. Just all the work I have done in the last few years, it feels like it is coming together on the big stage."
