In a massive intervention last week and again this week the Bank of England cut interest rates from 0.25% to 0.1% and launched a 200 billion pound program to buy UK government bonds and corporate bonds to support the economy and business. Investors sold UK government debt for short term cash holdings and invested in U.S. currency holdings as the safest asset they could find, as the economic effects of the coronavirus epidemic hit capital markets. Andrew Bailey, the Governor of the Bank of England stated that it was the government's job of preventing temporary "dislocation" becoming permanent economic "destruction." Business failures are expected as a result of the coronavirus impact and also layoffs resulting in a temporary jump in unemployment. Indian government has identified 50 districts with vaccination rates below 50% for first shot, for efforts at house to house vaccination by visiting homes of the unvaccinated. PM Modi returning from Glasgow held a meeting with chief ministers of the worst affected states such as Maharastra,Tamilnadu, Karnataka and other states with officers at the district level also present, to start Har Ghar Dastak campaign. Modi told the chief ministers and district officials that his talks with leaders of developed countries had increased his awareness of the great risks in letting any slackness or loss of vigorous effort take place in the vaccination effort. Germany is today facing a pandemic of the unvaccinated with fully vaccinated stuck at 67% and facing resistance from unvaccinated and closing of vaccination centers. The US is also facing the same problem and the winter looks increasingly fraught with dangers for both US and Europe, when people go indoors. India seeks to avoid having to face the same problem by taking action in advance to get unvaccinated to enlist in the national effort. Only Spain and Portugal have rates of vaccination close to or over 80% for fully vaccinated, and this is because of the huge trust people in these two countries place in the health system, seeing vaccination as a gift of modernity, and seeing that it is important to not risk health of older family members with whom most young people live with in these countries. ...

In 2025 Vienna a much smaller city built 3 times the home built in London. To reach the western European homes per capita London wold have to build 1.1 million new homes. In 2025 London set a target to build 88,000 homes- it actually built 4,170 homes. Population increased in 2025 by 100,000. One project after 4 years was delayed- local planning officers after 9000 pages of documentation did not approve it because tearing down 2 drab office buildings was "erasing an interesting period inindustrial history" in addition to saying it lacked detail. There just isn't the urgency to build homes and just too many reasons allowed to delay building. This leads to sky high prices dampening demand. Economic growth takes a big hit. This is holding back London and the whole country, an no one takes responsibility.

At a meeting at the White House Speaker Johnson came to an agreement on immigration reform of the asylum and parole system. A large number of people from Venezuela were admitted to the US in 2023 as the US has no agreement with Venezuela for return of people coming from that country. 2023 migrant entry could surpass 1 million as a result of this influx from Venezuela. This is a huge problem as 7.7 million people have left Venezuela of which 6.5 million are in Latin America, leading to the effort to cross the US border. About 286,000 Venezuelans crossed the border in 2023 by one estimate.

The UK corporate tax rate is set to go down to 17% in 2020. To discourage the one fifth of British companies planning to move headquarters overseas the Theresa May government plans to accelerate the lowering of the corporate tax rate. The Trump administration is considering reducing the corporate tax rate down to 15%. Ireland has a tax rate of 12.5%. The move by the Trump administration would reduce the incentive for inversion by corporations trying to reduce taxes by moving overseas.

Not much is said in this report on Preibus about his personal background, except that he has a close relationship with Speaker Paul Ryan, and that he initially gave Trump a 40 minute lecture to withdraw from the presidential race after the controversial tape involving remarks made by Trump was released. He was instrumental in winning the election for Trump by bringing in the party machinery to support Trump during the last 2 weeks of the election, and at the time in the closing days of the election considered the prospect of being Trump's chief of staff on the chance that Trump would win. He now models his behaviour with Trump to that of senior people who manage Trump's resort properties, says this report. IEA shows China in 2030 with 54% of mining and 77% of refining for rare earth minerals- a near monopoly. It is this monopoly that China is now using to negotiate with the US. Rare earth minerals are needed for many advanced technology products and renewable energy. This move by China to strictly restrict access to rare earth was not anticipated by US negotiators. Scientists at the University of California, San Francisco say that manufacturers of PFAS forever chemicals are using a strategy to discredit good research that detail risks from carcinogens. They says that these manufacturers suppress unfavorable research and distort public discourse. Former EPA researcher Dourson is shown here with a company that gets half its funding from chemical companies. He pushes for allowing many times the permissible level of carcinogens set by the EPA, and supports use of forever chemicals, in this report in the WSJ. President Trump appointed him head of the chemcial safety unit at EPA, but Doursen withdrew when there was bipartisan criticism of ties to industry. Critics say he uses biased science that looks at cherry picked data. His company is called Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment, which he founded after taking a buyout of $25,000 from EPA, according to WSJ.

Most insurers in the US have responded to this by cutting back on fossils, not State Farm and Berkshire Hathaway which are still betting on fossil fuels with multibillion dollar bets on oil companies, says this WSJ Exclusive report. Germany's Economy minister Zypries warned that Germany would take legal action by taking the case to the World Trade Organization if president Trump imposes tariffs above that allowed by WTO rules. She said this before a meeting at the White House between president Trump and Chancellor Merkel. The U.S. is Germany's largest export market with 107 billion in imports and the U.S. exports 58 billion euros of products to the U.S. Zypries accepted that the large trade surplus of Germany was "a problem," but that America "needs our machines and industrial plants" for the time being. Germany has insisted that it does not provide unfair advantages to its companies, and that German companies were simply more competitive. Trump has focussed largely on China for anti-competitive practices, though he mentioned BMW by name during the campaign. In the last 2 years the euro has depreciated significantly against the dollar giving German companies competitive advantage, largely as a result of the ECB- in opposition to German economic policy- trying to stimulate the economy of other southern eurozone countries such as Spain, Italy and France. ...

Janet Yellen Fed chairwoman, says many obstacles still exist for women in the workforce. Bringing more women into the workforce will increase the productive capacity of the American economy. The increasing participation of women in the workforce was factor in the growth and prosperity of America by the middle of the 20th century. In a speech sharing her personal narrative at Brown University, her alma mater, she described how other nations had passed the U.S. in women's participation in the workforce, and how it remains stalled at 75% for women either working or looking for work. Her speech was at a conference "125 Years of Women at Brown." The U.S. is now 17th among 22 developed nations in participation of women in workforce, mostly because of government and business policies that relate to paid maternity leave, affordable child care, and flexible work schedules.

The European Union goes forward with $39 billion for Ukraine aid. The aid is backed by interest from the $300 billion in Russian assets in Europe frozen when war began. Another $15-20 billon is expected from the US when legal questions about frozen Russian assets are resolved- the US asking for a 36 month review of sanctions to replace 6 months in place in 2024. The European Union offices in Brussels have done a poor job of communicating how the EU is  aiding Ukraine with its own resources. Lyrarc.com had to point out that Ukraine aid from EU was about twice that of the US at about $200 billion compared to about $95 billion for the US. Former president Trump stated that this was just the opposite the US spending twice what the US was spending. Media in today's world means little or nothing because it operates highly fragmented and organically outside the control of any particular source online, television or print. And established sources apart from bias are spread so thin many important matters for the betterment of people's lives or giving a true picture from which to make observations, are left to wither or distort. The highly formal  corporate environments of the EU are impervious to the outside so that institutions such as the ECB, European Union headquarters are out of touch with the people worldwide.  ...
