Saudi Arabia's efforts to push oil prices higher have fallen flat with deep discounted oil sales by Russia to China. Russia has overtaken the Saudis as the largest supplier of oil to China. Saudi supplies to China have fallen to 14% of imports, while Russia's supplies to China have increased to 14%. China is building up inventory as a reserve capacity. Saudis cut production last month to push prices higher but prices haven't budged and stayed at about $75 a barrel. Russia is discounting by $26 a barrel and offsets the extra $6 it costs to ship Russian oil.

Norfolk Southern fails to limit exposure of State courts. The Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision says states can require companies to submit to their jurisdiction as a condition of doing business within their borders. Justice Neil Gorsuch writing for the Court said that the Pennsylvania law does not violate the Constitution's Due Process Clause. The case comes from a retired worker at Norfolk Southern now living in Pennsylvania who said he developed cancer after exposure to carcinogens in Virginia and Ohio.

Goodenough persevered through a difficult childhood, studied mathematics at Yale because of his dyslexia, and physics at the University of Chicago under scientists Edward Teller and Enrico Fermi, getting a doctorate in 1952.

Suriname a small country of 600,000 people near Brazil, joins other countries with debt problems such as Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Zambia, and others which have piled up debt borrowing with unsustainable debt payments. About 545 million borrowed from China and total $2.4 billion in debt accumulated. It is now negotiating with the IMF for $690 three year loan. The US says China has to agree to join in reducing the debt burden so that the cost of assistance does not fall only on the US as the IMF's largest shareholder.

Bharat Jagdeo, vice president of Guyana tells the WSJ it wants to produce as much oil as it can quickly before renewble energy takes over. Guyana has $40 billion of Mobil projects that can add 1 million barrels a day by 2030. Non-OPEC producers US, Brazil and Guyana can boost output by 5.1 million barrels a day, OPEC+ can only increase production by 800,000 barrels a day. This means the US can help keep oil prices at levels that help India/Indonesia, Europe and the US grow.  Brazil and Guyana do not want OPEC mandated production cuts.

China's EV market is very competitive and price cuts by Tesla have led to falling prices. BYD sold 900,000 electric vehicles in the first 5 months of 2023, Tesla 200,000, and Li Motors 100,000. NIO is struggling and some companies have closed operations. Ford failed in this market and VW is still to make a dent in the market. Most of the top ten companies are local. With the slowing economy, consumers resisting purchases, price drops are needed to keep up sales of EV's.

Rachel Bernhardt 28 years, is from Drexel University. She started swimming competitively late- at Drexel University and missed a lot of the early training Olympic athletes get. She is now training under longtime Northwestern University swim coach Bob Groseth who is at Queen's University in Charlotte, North Carolina. Part of the training is to focus on the technique that she did not get to develop in the early years. She has persevered through it all including a knee surgery and rehab. Of NYT's decades old indifference, an almost Churchill like distance and indifference to the aspirations of the people of South Asia it can be said- indifference to the aspirations of 1.4 billion people to modernize the country with the same infrastructure that Europe and the US, Japan, and now China take for granted. Indifference to the problems in creating a nation  with 13 languages and 1.4 billion people that has a freely elected parliament never before done in history, one which also delivers on banking accounts, health care, infrastructure, for all its  people, of all races and religions. This indifference runs counter to everything that Indians admire about America. And a lack of awareness of what Indians admire today about the Biden administration's promise to make the words of Jefferson true in America as the Modi administration does in India- "We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, (created equal) and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." The NYT's indifference to this inequality both in the US and in India run counter to the founding principles of Jefferson and of India's saint from Wardha, Mohandas Gandhi, who both fought the British empire at the height of its prominence.  ...

It includes Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark, Norway.The goal to quadruple wind energy generation capacity by 2030, and tenfold by 2050.
