This report describes the contrast between the National Front under Jean Le Pen and his daughter, Marie Le Pen. Marie took over the party leadership in 2011, and has downplayed her father's more racist ideology, even calling her self Marine dropping her last name. About 22% of French women are expected to vote for Marine, according to Elabe polling agency. In previous elections only 12% of French women had supported Marine's father because of overt racism. Yet recent remarks by Marine about Vichy regime shootings have revived some of the old memories of the National Front among some women. High unemployment and sense of neglect has led to a search for alternatives, and the terrorist incidents in Nice and Paris have added to the momentum for the National Front that calls for tougher measures. The Republican Party candidate Fillon, now has the support of Alain Juppe of Bordeaux, and former president Sarkozy. Fillon is also advocating tougher measures, and it is not clear how many votes would shift from Fillon on the right to Le Pen.  ...

An increasingly volatile and impatient electorate says The Guardian. Yet it is also true that Labour's win was much more fragile than the number of MP's elected to parliament, as there was no increase in support between the last two general elections. Labour's win was because of the conservative vote being divided by Reform UK splitting the conservative vote. After years of austerity Labour needed to get the message right that it was going to act in earnest and fight for working people which Starmer not only failed to do this but sent a mixed message that he was more concerned about budgetary restrictions. Starmer had a chancellor who clearly sent the wrong message to the public and Britain after 14 years of austerity. The Mandelson appointment showed a degree of callousness to the opinion of working people of both Starmer's chief of staff McSweeney and Starmer, as Mandelson was from a previous era of Labour which had clearly failed the British people. People in Britain were right to ask who is this guy who can't come out clearly and say what he is for after 14 years of brutal austerity under different conservative prime ministers, and a divisive vote for leaving the European Union, the least of Britain's priorities. Labour pretended to talk tough about migration during the election but once elected failed to grasp the concerns and unease of working people about asylum hotels and migrations, hanging on to now inappropriately applied  European Commission of Human Rights concerns when whole communities were first deindustrialized by British policy on manufacturing that hurt the social and economic fabric, and then asked to have migrants from remote countries whom they knew nothing about in their neighborhoods. ...

Nutrition plays a big part in sleep. More fruits and vegetables, legumes, grains, fish in the diet helps sleep by supplying melatonin. Increases supply of the essential amino acid tryptophan. The 32 year old leader of the movement called Five Star started by comedian Beppe Grillo in Italy, Luigi Maio, now leads the effort to form a government in Italy. The M5S party party won 32% of the vote in Italy's 2018 elections. The Northern League a far right party based on the region near Milan led by Matteo Salvini, came in second. In combination with Berlusconi's Forza Italia it has 37% of the vote, not enough to form a government on its own. The M5S is a centre left party which shares euroskepticism with the Northern League, but remains a centrist party that has little in common with the Northern League and Berlusconi. The FIve Star Movement sees fresh elections as the only next step as it sees no chance of a coalition with the far right parties.

French president Macron tells his compatriots that he thanks them for supporting him through this difficult period. "I know I have a duty towards them in the years to come." His health minister Oliver Veran said frankly- "We have also heard the people's message. There will be a change of method. The French people will be consulted."  Macron faced three crises, the pandemic, cost of living increases and war in Europe, as he fought back in the last weeks of the campaign to win the a second term for the first time in 20 years, since Jacques Chirac.

Angela Merkel loses a local election in her region of Mecklenburg Pomerania in Germany. The CDU comes in third at 19% following the AfD anti-immigration party with 21%. The Social Democrats party gets over 31%. Commentators say this region is more likely to take an anti-immigrant stance, compared to other parts of Germany. The next elections are on Sept 18 in Berlin, which is very different from parts of the former communist East Germany. The CDU has embraced the themes of "homeland," and public safety, and Merkel says about the decision a year ago on immigration-"it was not about opening the border to everyone- it was about not shutting it to those who made their way to us from Hungary, on foot and in great need of help." Merkel is likely to regain her footing with voters, as the vote in Mecklenburg was more of a protest vote and Merkel has adapted current policy to check immigration. Peter Tauber, general secretary for the CDU, Merkel's party, sees the vote also reflecting anger of those who have lost out in the moves to globalization, and not just about immigration. ...

The strong showing by National Front leader Marie Le Pen and her focus on the economy in France, and the lack of growth with austerity measures, is likely to change the way the eurozone countries respond to the deficits and German insistence on austerity cuts. Marie Le Pen's economic positions for more government spending to reduce unemployment and provide additional benefits is closer to Socialist candidate Hollande's position. The right wing party in Holland also voiced the same concern recently- that it did not want to hurt Dutch pensioners with austerity cuts- when it refused to support the Dutch government leading to its collapse and new elections.

The US Constitution says the presidential candidate, the head of government, has to be 35 years old, setting an age limit. No such age limit is set in the French Constitution for the Fifth Republic setup by Charles De Gaulle in 1958- a French citizen over age 18 years is allowed to stand for president. The current prime minister of France Gabriel Attal is 35 years old, appointed by president Macron. Macron ran for president at age 38 years, had experience as a cabinet member in the Economics ministry of Francois Hollande. Attal was Minister of Public Accounts and Public Action in the Elisabeth Borne government in 2022, and Minister of Education and Youth in Borne's government reshuffle in 2023. Jordan Bardella lacks any experience in government and most of his time was spent in representing his district in the National Assembly and in party positions. As the RN is unlikely to get an absolute majority in the National Assembly Bardella by saying he would not take up PM position without an absolute majority is also aware of this lack of experience and an astonishingly young age. ...
