Obama speaking of Russia as a regional power and ignoring Russia is now seen as a mistake, says this report in the Guardian. It showed a poor understanding of Russia after the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union. The impoverishment of Russia that followed with the lack of foreign reserves and the collapse of the ruble currency, created a strong mistrust among Russians of a western model of development without modification to suit the country and its people. The decline in the lifespan of Russians was shown in a cover article in the WSJ around 2000 and shown in Lyrarc at the time. In some of the early articles on Putin and Russia during the first five years of the Putin presidency that were shown on Lyrarc, Putin expressed an intense desire for Russia not to be seen as a banana republic for concentrations of financial capital in the US. Such was the situation at that time, and the memory is still there for Russians and for Mr. Putin. Ukraine and NATO are just layers on top of what has happened earlier. One sees this in Germany with the rise of the Afd in East Germany after the unification left people in the eastern part around Leipzig nostalgic for the German Democratic Republic of Soviet days. The coalition of socialist, greens and communist parties could win about 205 seats says the Ifop poll. Jean Luc Melenchon is leading a effort by socialist parties to form the next government in France. It is the only alternative to Mr. Macron's party in the parliamentary elections on June 12 and June 19. Meenchon supports raising the minimum wage by 15%, introducing a wealth tax and lowering the retirement age. Another poll by BVA shows only 35% of French voters want Macron's party to win a majority. 

Germany under Scholz's socialist SPD and Greens has increased the minimum wage to 12 euros per hour as part of the election platform. The trend in Europe is now for support to workers and families to meet the high cost of living with inflation accelerated by the war in Ukraine, the energy shortages and higher food prices.

DJT administration 25% tariffs on Canada Mexico for not stopping fentanyl flows as domestic policy go ahead on March 4, 2025. This lays the ground to tackle aproblem that has led to 490,000 American deaths and devastated communities across the US - the flow of fentanyl into the US from Mexico, Canad and China. Separately an additional 10% tariff is going to effect on China on top of earlier tariffs on China.  The media keeps talking about this tariff as a economic action, not as action to stop all fentanyl flows as is repeatedly stated by DJT and the Administration. Most of the media has failed to talk about the fentanyl deaths over 12 years referring as one of the prominent media states as the "death of thousands" not giving the staggering number and the scale of the devastation of communities in America after the damage from the 2009 financial crisis caused by banks, the deindustrialization of America that was allowed to happen under Bush Republicans and Obama Democrats, and the covid pandemic crisis.  ...

During 2018 negotiations China's vice premier Liu He asked finance business leaders "We need your help." This included  Black Rock, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, and others. In exchange China which has protected its financial markets from American finance companies now offered to give some opportunities, though as other companies in other industries have found out this could be limited by other priorities.  The Trump and now the Biden administration are pursuing the decoupling of the Chinese and American economies after learning through two decades that it is damaging to the U.S. economic position in the world. The new law passed by unanimous vote in Congress to be signed into law by president Trump requires Chinese companies to have financial audits inspected by U.S. regulatory agency for them to remain listed on U.S. exchanges. However as the WSJ points out in a separate article this does not restrict Chinese companies access to global capital in unfair competition with the U.S. because the law goes into effect over 3 years giving Chinese companies. American investors can also invest in the Chinese companies on the Hong Kong stock exchange unless their entire thinking process changes seeing what is best for America as best for them. ...
