GE's operation of MSNBC puts it in the same category as a Goldman Sachs. The lack of a clear position by the US Chamber of Commerce, because of its opposition to the Obama administration. The movement carries with it risks, as the Republican party's control of the House of Representatives is not ensured. Ideology of a vague kind has become a substitute for good credentials and experience, in the fast-forward effort by activists such as Dick Armey to capture popular discontent. Says Dick Armey, "We live by the creed 'hard work beats Daddy's money,' " raising serious questions about how a statement like this would help the jobless or the economy. ...

And the focus would be only on the Ford brand and logo, so Mulally will close Mercury models and sell the premium luxury brands except Volvo with the sale to Tata Motors. The market and stock price is responding and Ford has already shown a profit of $750 million in the second quarter of 2007 by being able to sustain higher prices with fewer cars to sell. The Fiesta compact goes on sale in the US in 2010 and this with the redesigned Focus and other models will show how far Ford can go. The risk is now more in the economy as BW estiimates show a $3 trillion overhang of overspending that occurred over the last decade that will have to be worked down by US consumers and so one can expect a continued and protracted decline in sales not just for Ford but for all manufacturers in the USA market....

As many as 2 million votes in the 2014 Afghanistan elections are called into question. This is 2 million out of a total of 8 million. In the last election it is estimated 1.3 million fradulent votes were made for Hamid Karzai. This time it is said security officials, government officials and others worked together to get as many as 2 million votes for Asraf Ghani, who Karzai supports. This is happening even as the Taliban are increasing attacks in the country and the Americans are withdrawing. It shows that instead of a withdrawal that the Obama administration promised their appears to be a situation that is no different from that of the Bush administration, where American lives were lost and sacrifices made without even the most basic results- no assurance that if the government collapses from strains within and outside, Taliban and terrorism could not happen again as is hapening in Iraq.

A study by Dr. McCormick of the Harvard Medical School and professors at the City University of New York School of Public Health at Hunter College, shows that the anticipated savings from conversion to medical records may not materialize to the extent expected. This study of data from 1100 doctors of 28,000 patient visits shows that with access to digital records doctors actually increased the number of tests ordered- from 12.9% of visits without digital records to 18% of visits with digital records. For more advanced tests such as MRI and CT scan the rate was 70% higher. Dr. McCormick says this may be because the new digital technology may have made it easier to order tests.

The analogy is with replacing a health care plan, not just the Obama plan, any plan without something to take its place. For a few days before this article by Kristof, the Republican effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act without having a replacement was presented as a good idea. Janet is like the three Republican women- Collins of Maine, Capito of West Virginia, and Murkowski of Alaska who wanted to keep the heart they had till a replacement was found, against the surgeon Trump's advice. In a way it is about politicians in the last decade who never had any discussions as they rushed through with their own agendas, as the Republican and Democratic health care plans were rushed through Congress with relatively little participation and debate to hear all viewpoints. ...

Apple released a report on working conditions at factories used by suppliers in China. Of these factories 108 facilities did not pay overtime wages. In 93 of the facilities records show over half of the workers worked for more than 60 hours per week. In 5 facilities there was use of underage workers. 112 facilities were not following proper practice in storing, moving and handling of hazardous chemicals. Apple CEO Cook says he will need to monitor these factories very, very carefully.
