Sheila Dewan provides analysis of the figures on household debt for the fourth quarter of 2013 put out by the U.S. Federal Reserve. U.S. households added $241 billion in debt in the 4th quarter 2014, increasing by 2.1%. Certain groups such as students and young people were restrained in spending by high levels of student debt. Debt increases were $152 billion for new morgages, $18 billion for car loans, and $53 billion for student loans up by 5.3%. Total household debt to income ratio went up to 130% by 2007, and has since declined to above 100% at the end of the 3rd quarter of 2013, going up again in the 4th quarter of 2013. Credit card debt showed only a small increase of 1.6% as households focussed in cutting credit card debt with high interest rates. Increases in credit card debt and in mortgage debt were shown to be for people with very high credit scores of above 720 in the Federal Reserve analysis, a sign of the caution exercized by households and banks following the overleveraging in 2008....

In a shift from statements at earlier summits which focussed on fiscal restraint, the Camp David summit continued the "firm committment to fiscal consolidation," yet emphasized jobs and economic growth as "imperative." There is new flexibility to address needs for economic growth and no specific timetables for fiscal balance as in previous summits. Obama had many one to one encounters with the other leaders. He discussed the euro crisis with Cameron while working out on a treadmill, and watched the Champions League soccer final between Chelsea and Bayern Munich with Merkel and Cameron. Each leader of the G-8, Harper of Canada, Monti of Italy, Hollande of France, Medvedev of Russia, Cameron of Britain, Noda of Japan, Merkel of Germany, was assigned a cabin in the rustic wooded setting of Camp David's mountains. A special effort was made to see that Germany's Merkel did not feel isolated in the setting because of the growing sentiment that austerity policies pushed by Germany are not working. On Iran, Obama stated that he was "hopeful that we can resolve this issue in a peaceful fashion that recognizes their sovereignty, but also recognizes their responsibilities."...

Le Monde draws a sharp contrast between the Twitter rebranding as X under Elon Musk lowering the guardrails and Jimmy Wales Wikipedia started in the idealistic early days of the internet on Jan 15, 2001 by a community of volunteers.  These communities of volunteers keep plugging away in the environment where stuff is becoming divisive and thrown around in weird ways on social media channels losing touch with truth and reality. Jimmy Wales says of this phenomena of today-"I would say the decline of trust in journalism and politics is quite severe, which then, in some cases, translates into people feeling more angry and lost."  "But among the Wikipedia community, "we just plug away, trying to be neutral, trying to be clear." The same is true of Lyrarc.com trying to do it the old ways when John Kennedy was president with a summary of different constructive ideas for educated minds knowing that they will never go out of fashion, ways that have stuck around from Washington's and Lincoln's days. ...
