A new $110 million high school, three new grade schools, and a renovated city hall. And a developer refurbished several abandoned mills along the Merricmack River, and leased out 1.4 million square feet to some 200 companies employing 2000 workers.

African governments such as Kenya have eliminated excise taxes on low priced beer, and the production of locally made Senator beer by Diageo's East Africa Breweries is increasing rapidly in East Africa. SABMiller makes low priced beer brands in Ghana, Uganda and other countries. The government sees this as a way to reduce the consumption of locally brewed beers of poor quality, and a source of revenues. Health workers expect an increase in health problems as a result of increasing consumption of low priced beer. Obesity is amajor problem in S. Africa and in other African countries. This will have effects in the higher rate of diabetes and other diseases related to obesity. Alcohol consumption in Africa per person is about 10 liters of alcoholic beverages a year, with consumption at 70 liters in S. Africa, the country with the highest rate of obesity. The figures globally are 35 liters, and 91 liters in the U.S., another country with high rates of obesity and diabetes, according to 2011 figures from Euromonitor. ...

Australia is seeing strong results from apickup in CHinese demand, the stimulus of 67 billion Australian dollars ($60.58 billion US), and investment including A$43 billion natural-gas project of Chevron Corporation. As a result the unemployment rate fell to 5.7% in September from 5.8% in August 2009. Australia has the third highest fiscal stimulus package 2008-2010 as a percent of GDP at 4.6%, after the US at 5.6%, S. Korea at 4.9%. As aresult Australia's central bank is the first of the G-20 to raise interest rates lifting it to 3.25%.

Goldman Sachs estimates litigation related losses at $3.4 billion and J.P. Morgan Chase estimates litigation related losses of $4.5 billion after the financial crisis of 2008. Citigroup's estimate is $4 billion, Bank of America's is $1.5 billion, Wells Fargo at $1.2 billion above reserves. France's president Sarkozy, said of British demands to protect its financial industry: "To accept a reform of the treaties by all 27 countries, David Cameron asked what we all considered unacceptable: a protocol in the treaty which would exonerate the U.K. on a certain number of regulations on financial services." British demands included one that would have made transfers of power from a national regulator to a E.U. regulator subject to a British veto, and a committment to keeping the European Banking Authority in London. To European leaders who are dealing with the fallout from years of weak regulation and bad loan decisions by banks, Britain's efforts to shield its banking industry was seen negatively. Efforts by Cameron to win exemptions for Britain's financial sector during a time of severe financial crisis is only leading to Britain becoming isolated from the 26 other countries in the European Union.

The travails of Mexican legal and illegal immigrants . During 2006 and 2007 about 300,000 Hispanic immigrants legal and illegal joined the work force each year, and worked in jobs in meatpacking, construction and agriculture. Many came from poorer parts of Mexico and were thankful for these jobs that locals did not want to do. These are the stories of many of these immigrants, who were now to be found in the Northern Plains and the Deep South, in addition to places like CalifornIA. Illegal immigrants had to deal with immigration agents, where asimple stop at atraffic light could lead to deportation proceedings. Others who lost jobs had to find some other kind of work, some were able to others were not so lucky.
