The Sri Lankan economy, jobs and growth are affected by economic relations with India, loans and assistance from India, and from investment from India in the 2025 period. USAID plays very little part in jobs and growth. This is true of other countries.  In the past the USAID was seen as part of the activity of the State Department overseas yet kept separate so that aid would not be based on US diplomatic activity. Over time it became a place which supported what critics call bureaucrats pet projects in developing countries. Many developing nations have advanced in their development and no longer need USAID projects, this includes India, Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Brazil, Chile, and parts of Africa. Because development aid was at one time critical as in the period when John Kennedy came to office in the Cold War with the Soviet Union, many nations in Asia and Africa were just becoming independent there was a sense from that time that its acitvity and budget was somehow both independent of the State Department and sacrosanct. As a result it became a target of critics and did not advance the US interests overseas as the US Information Service, the VOA Voice Of America and other agencies have done. A country's development no longer depended on USAID. Why does it need to be separate when it should advance US goals and interests around the world which are benevolent- consider that it is the US that helped build up the Chinese economy and still provides it with a large market. ...

White provides critical insights to understand Ukraine's situation caught up between Germany and the EU on one side and Russia with its aspirations under Putin to bring together former Soviet bloc states. Russia is a critical energy provider for Ukraine and trade relations. The eastern part of Ukraine around Donetsk has favorable opinion about Russia. The western part of Ukraine looks for closer ties to the EU and favors joining the European Union. It was president Yakunovych's reversal of course in turning down an agreement for closer ties to the EU that led to the current crisis and street protests. Putin offered Ukraine $15 billion in loans to sign a trade and economic agreement with Russia. The language used by Russian prime minister Medvedev that Ukraine should not become "like a doormat that people wipe their feet on," shows the Putin administration's views. This was only a day before Ukraine's parliament voted to set a date for new elections, freed former prime minister Tymoshenko and began talks for opposition leaders to be part of a transitional government....

Differences between the Christian Democrats and the CSU over immigration and Merkel's open door policy are only one of the issues for a new Merkel government. There are differences between the CDU and the Free Democrats. Add to this the difference between the Greens and the Free Democrats on environment and business policies.  As a result 2 months after the German election no clear agreement has been reached for a new government made up of the CDU, CSU, Free Democrats and the Greens.  It looks like a difficult coalition to form requiring all the skills of chancellor Merkel and her allies, and in uncharted territory. The FDP leader Lindner sees a 50-50 chance for the talks. The Greens do not want a new election. Merkel's CDU party won about 33% of the vote. To not form a minority government she needs the FDP and the Greens to get over 50% of voters represented in the new government.
