The Economist magazine says parliament in Britain should act to pass a motion of no- confidence for the Boris Johnson government. It says Mr.Johnson's action stifling parliamentary democracy by suspending parliament in the weeks before the Brexit date of October 31st is reason for the opposition and Tory rebels to set aside their differences. Without this Mr. Johnson could take Britain out of the European Union without any deal. This would damage the economy, leaving Britons poorer, and create unrest in Northern Ireland.

President Macron announces plans to bring a draft law that aims to fight separatist cultural influences in France through the education system and through children being educated at home. These separatist influences stem from France's colonial past in Arab North Africa and influx of Arab immigrants as well as immigrants from Asian countries practicing Islam. Macron said there has been a hardening of positions in Islamic communities worldwide which has created a crisis in Islam making it important to emphasize France's tradition of secular values. Macron says Islam practiced in France must be freed from foreign influence as part of France's long tradition of laicite or state secularism values set by a law first enacted in 1905 separating church from state. In saying this Macron said he accepted the failings of French policy in letting ghettoization of communities of Muslim residents happen in France. And added that "where we stepped away other stepped in." In referring to the colonial legacy he said "we have not unpacked our past. We have grandparents who have passed their scars onto their children." ...

Dropping birthrates in China are a major concern especially in the northeast states.Women are pushing back against pressure to have 2 children after 3 decades of one child policy. State subsidies and incentives are not working as birthrates continue to drop. Improving education standards and incomes have delayed marriage and childbirth. In 3 decades more than a third of the population could be over 60 years of age. A struggling economy in some states and cities places extra burden to delay childbirth. In Hubei province hospitals have offered to cover the costs of childbirth as well as give 500 yuan subsidy for first child and 700 yuan for second child. Extended maternity leave is also offered. Within weeks or months one can expect the Federal Republic take the lead for the defense of Europe, with the partnership of France, and the Nordic countries of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and the UK. As Merz said clearly- “My absolute priority will be to strengthen Europe as quickly as possible so that, step by step, we can really achieve independence from the USA." European perceptions of recent happenings in the Ukraine war and the war's progression from the beginnings over three years will matter in 2025 as Europe, as Germany, France and Britain take on the role of bringing a fair peace to Europe that closes the war and does the reconstituting of defense architecture of Europe under new institutions that needed to be taken up in the 1990's after the fall of the Berlin Wall. ...

After controversy regarding her behavior at Beetlejuice theatre Boebert is seen as lagging behind the Democrat's Adam Frisch, a Aspen councilman who ran out of funds in the last election yet is well financed this time.

Rachel Reeves is Shadow Chancellor in Britain, that is a way of saying Finance Minister when Labor currently in the Opposition forms a new government. Speaking at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington DC she says how Labour will bring about a transformation of Britain's economy with ambitions that borrows from and matches what Biden is doing in the US, and Scholz in Germany. This is very different from anything Britain has seen in its history. The Labour government of Clement Attlee made some institutional changes such as setting up the Bank of England as Britain's central bank in 1946, creating the structures that would help workers and families and the British economy recover from the war, and declaring in parliament that Britain would leave India by June 1948. Blair's response to the Thatcher government did not rival the changes brought by Attlee by any comparison. What Britain following the US is facing today is an FDR or Attlee moment because of the scale of changes needed to create an American or British economy that matches the aspirations of the people, and creating a meaningful role in the world economy and supply chains. Investments have to be made in public goods such as renewable energy, health, education and transportation infrastructure that have no parallel in history including that of FDR or Attlee. Biden is investing on a scale that is designed to overcome two decades of neglect of infrastructure and public goods such as education, health care, and public services. The same is true for Britain. The same is true for Germany and for the European Union.   ...
