The impact of climate change is short term rather than long term as seen by the heat wave in South Asia today, the fires in North America and Europe. Republicans are losing sight of the importance of making the shift on renewable energy quickly with some short term pain, as they push for oil and gas solutions and a less effective program for renewable energy. Mr. Biden is taking on bigger risks in the short term in the midterms and beyond but following a sound policy of aggressively pushing renewable energy. This can also be seen in the importance renewable energy is being given even in countries with a need for coal and natural gas such as India. Counting only people who voted in 2020 Biden is ahead 2 percentage points. 2024 Biden campaign is complicated by irregular and disengaged voters. Will disengaged mostly younger voters stay home or will they vote? What will happen with the churn- how many of the irregular voters from the last election will turn out and how many stay home. Many are Democrat leaning and as the election campaign progresses they may become more aware and vote but this is by no means certain. In a Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted June 2-5, Republican presidential candidate Romney receives more support than President Obama. Among all Americans Romney and Obama receive 47% each, among registered voters Romney leads 49% to 46%. Independent voters gave Romney 50% to 43% for Obama. The poll shows Obama is being viewed with increasing skepticism because of the economy. By 2 to 1, Americans say the U.S. economy is on the wrong track, and 9 in 10 see the economy as doing poorly. The poll also show a significant shift to Republicans being seen favorably for running the economy, 45% now see Republicans as being better able to tackle the economy, a 11 point increase from a March poll.
