This article explains what happened recently in the firing of Pakistan's Chief Justice of Supreme Court by President Musharraf. It started when the Chief Justice agreed to hear petitions on behalf of missing persons filed by the Human Rights Commission for those missing in raids by the government to control opposition and supposedly Islamic extremists. Demographic trends and Muslim populations around the world. some of the fastest growing populations are in Pakistan, India, Nigeria. Slower growth in Indonesia. In Europe faster growth in Spain and France relative to other countries. The Muslim popullation in Europe will be about 10% in places like Sweden and France in 2030. Where multiculturalism has been denounced, in Germany the Muslim population grows from 5% in 2010 to 7% in 2030, and a little over 4% to 8% in Britain. In France it goes up from close to 8% to a little over 10% in 2030. This is from research and forecasts done by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life in January 2011. It does not suggest a huge problem especially if the Muslim populations are affected by the trend to democracy in their home countries and improving standards of living, and a move towards integration in the different societies in Europe.

The U.S. Defense Department is about to move forward with a plan to store battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and heavy weapons, for about 5000 American troops in Baltic countries and Eastern Europe. The move is in response to calls from Baltic republics to prepare a rapid reaction capability in response to any Russian action.

Giridharadas cites artists, students, television commentators, and others in Istanbul as he looks at the change in Turkey under prime minister Erdogan. There are he says two Turkeys one secular setup by Kemal Ataturk to modernize Turkey, and the other fostered by Erdogan that looks to its Muslim roots, and the two are simply drifting away from each other. There is too little conversation between the two. In the middle are Turks who see the change as a necessary adjustment to accept the country's roots in Anatolia and the surrounding countryside, and see it possible for Turks to be secular in their public lives and world outlook and preserve Muslim traditons in their private lives. Turkey's economy is also changing with increasing trade relations with other Middle East countries including Iran, Iraq and Egypt balancing its ties with the European Union countries.

The costs of fraud in medical care from spurious Medicare claims to kickbacks for unecessary services is estimated at $125 to 175 billion. Costs of unnecessary care from overuse to unnecessary lab tests are between $250-325 billion. The amount wasted for on treatment for preventable conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. is $25-50 billion. This number is much higher when all the complications from obesity are figured in. These amounts alone add up to $500 billion. Add to it the problems and the costs of medical errors leading to bad drug reactions or other misdiagnosed procedures which cost an estimated $75-100 billion and the the total is upto $600 billion. These amounts are not going to be tackled by computerization of medical records. The whole manner and ways in which medicine is practiced today and the manner in which the public takes care of its health would have to change for an impact to be made in these numbers.
