At one time Spotify's headquarters in World Trade Center 4 took up 16 floors of space. Today Spotify employees can work from distant locations. Spotify told employees they can work remotely, even in another state. Company after company is vacating space or reducing the amount of space it uses in the high rise buildings in New York City. New York may never look the same. The sight of thousands of employees entering he high rise office buildings to go to work spaces may now be a thing of the past.

Amazon has 15,000 employees in Seattle from global employees of about 97,000. New towers being built in downtown Seattle will bring 12,000 new workers to Seattle. The development is similiar to that of other companies such as Twitter which are developing urban spaces to attract young employees with children. This means the city has to bring public schools and create residential space in the city. The area Amazon is using was bought by Microsoft founder Paul Allen for development that never started and is from the city's gritty maritime past. Northeastern University based in Boston has started a remote campus near Amazon buildings. A park next to the Museum of History and Industry provides green space. And the Museum itself was renovated with a contribution from Amazon founder Bezos. Amazon's head of global estate and facilities, John Schoelter, says the renewal of the area was apparent as soon as Amazon began work in South Lake Union area. 30 percent of Hamburg, a key port city in the north of Gemany,  is protected for parks and nature following a plan set by Schumacher, the chief building officer during the early 20th century. Hamburg has 10 percent more green space than other cities in Germany. Hamburg also takes a unique approach to building affordable housing by doing this and yet keeping the nature areas protected. Rosa Chang, immigrant from South Korea, is pursuing her dream of green park space in the middle of Brooklyn's densely packed and traffic filled areas. She is unrelenting giving it her all for over ten years, and keeps this vision alive even today, says John Leland in this NYT report. Rosa Chang sees Gotham Park on 9 acres in Brooklyn that is covered with parking space and six lanes of clattering bridge traffic. Chang is trying to attract $200 million needed for this to happen to add badly needed park space for kids and families in Brooklyn neighborhoods. She has the support of Meera Joshi, deputy mayor of operations, under Mayor Eric Adams, and Dan Doctoroff, deputy mayor under former mayor Michael Bloomberg. Doctoroff who helped create other parks in New York City sees this park could bring in $290 million for local merchants by bringing in Asians, Hispanics and Blacks, Whites all closer together in this space. It would provide green park space for park deprived neighboring communities. Bloomberg and Doctoroff created 7 parks in the city including the High Line and Brooklyn Bridge Park. It is  people like Chang, who was born in South Korea, grew up in Toronto and visited many cities in Europe and around the world, that understand what livable spaces look like and where green space is essential for kids and families to grow up. ...

Tom Edwards talks to Julian Robinson the head architect for Crossrail project about the ambient detailing in each of the stations for the new Elizabeth Line. Edwards says these are strikingly huge and wide open spaces, and the stations were built for the next generation with space to spare for population growth. Design paid attention to smooth curves in the way the users see the stations while walking. Each station has its own unique design.
