Germany's EVG transport workers union reached an agreement with Deutsche Bahn on wage increases. EVG asked for 650 euros a month. After months of 1 day strikes both sides agreed to arbitration in June. The new agreement gives workers wage increases of 410 euros ($443) a month in 2 stages over 25 months, 200 euros in December and 210 euros in August 2024. And a tax free one off payment of 2850 euros in October. Negotiations of DB with the train drivers union GDL lie ahead with GDL asking for increase of 550 euros a month and one time payment of 3000 euros. Transgender was shown as an issue with parents shown with their daughter who had suffered from transgender laws that he asked Congress to change. The US Supreme Court will soon make a decision on the power of president Biden to take action on student loan forgiveness for millions of borrowers when Congress has failed to take action. 43 million people in the US holding $1.6 trillion in student debt would get some form of forgiveness under president Biden's $400 billion plan. Arguments will be made at the Supreme Court with a 6-3 Trump appointed majority of Conservative justices and a decision expected in June. Congress has failed to resolve this matter of debt affecting a large part of the US population leaving it to president Biden to offer some form of relief before a larger resolution is backed by Congress. A ruling will be made by June.

US president Biden puts forward a sweeping clean energy plan that could zero out US emissions by 2050. It calls for paying utilities to make a rapid transition to clean energy, and financial penalties for utilities that are slow. Tariffs would be put in place on imports from oil and gas producers for leaking greenhouse gases into the environment from wells, pipes and tanks. Wind and solar units would get new tax incentives. Biden through this plan would achieve the pledge of clean energy so that the US would help eliminate emissions from US power generation by 2035. The European Union plans to rebuild its solar panel industry by manufacturing in the home country. This means shifting away from supply channels where China controls 80% of production. Chancellor Merkel failed to see the risks of letting German companies be decimated by China's subsidy program supporting solar panel makers in China. A system of customs duties failed when China threatened to retaliate with duties on German car exports. In the end Germany like the US under president Obama and Trump after 2010 failed to support domestic solar panel makers.  Now subsidies are accepted way of competing with China for both the US and the EU. The US under the Biden administration is fully committed to compete with China by developing its own solar panel manufacturing industry with the kind of help China is giving to its own solar panel makers. The EU is following the same path. From 200 gigawatts in 2023 the EU's target is 600 gigawatts from solar by 2030. The 400 gigawatts will come from through a policy of make at home in the EU, including raw materials, polysilicon, wafers, and assembly. Subsidies are now the way the US and the EU plan to get back what they lost to China, their critical manufacturing advantage through errors in policy. The European Commission is also changing the rules to accomodate the move. Report on Climate Science put out by the US Energy Department in 2025 questioning the severity and impending nature of climate change effects. It is challenged by scientists who believe in the severity and impending nature of climate change, quite the opposite. Koonin, a Fellow at the Hoover Instituion at Stanford describes the work and its conclusions. He says the research is peer reviewed and looks at 200 years of climate research. Some of the conclusions- That climate change models claiming catastrophic situations are ultra sensitive and lead to extreme scenarios.  It talks about climate variability, and model deficiencies, data limitations. And says data for climate over continental US show no long term trends for extreme weather events. Global sea level rise of 8 inches since 1800 is not disputed but it says US tide gauge data shows no long term acceleration in warming globe.  On one point there has been agreement even in the Biden administration- what the US does to cut emissions will little effect the global changes in warming- because of coal use by China and India defended as needed for electricity for two billion people, an essential need. Thus the desire for a calculated tradeoff which lets the US take advantage of its abundance of oil and gas to reduce the cost of living for ordinary Americans, also an essential need. Because of the declining cost of natural gas vs coal, coal is in gradual phase out, and declining cost of solar means Germany, China, India are making the shift to solar, and nuclear energy provides another option. The difference is that the DJT administration is taking government out of the effort and letting the private sector work out building of renewable sources. Government is not always the answer as electric cars are likely to make more gains in 2026 than under the Biden administration because of VW, Mercedes, BYD, Ford and GM coming up with cars that can do close to 500 miles on one charge and the cost of an EV down to about $30,000 to $40,000. ...

US president Biden announces a plan that makes it mandatory for all employers with more than 100 employees to require their workers to be vaccinated. The Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration will issue an emergency temporary standard for implementing the new rule. This will cover 80 million private sector employees. Businesses that fail to meet the standard will face fines of up to $14,000 per violation. Employers must also give workers paid time off to get vaccinated or recover from any side effects.

Federal government workers and contractors also must meet the new requirement or face regular testing. In all 100 million workers or two thirds of American workers will be covered. 

To meet testing needs the Biden administration is procuring $2 billion in rapid point of care and over the counter at home Covid tests, using the Defense Production Act for accelerated production.

The distribution will widen to 1400 cities by 2015, from 500 currently, by moving to smaller towns and cities in China's interior. Adidas also plans to ramp up its presence in basketball, a sport that Nike emphasizes. In China it will offer the NEO brand in smaller cities, targeting teens with prices about 50% of other Adidas brands. The strategy is to introduce Adidas products to people with lower incomes at lower price points, a strategy being used by Nestle, P&G and Unilever in consumer products for emerging markets. Adidas has opened an online retail store with Taobao.com and plans to bring in $500 in internet sales by 2015.
