Here he points to the dire need to open up trade between India and Pakistan. Trade today between the two countries is $2.7 billion. President Santos of Colombia met U.S. president Obama at the White House in Feb 2016, following successful peace talks in Havana between the Santos government and the FARC guerilla group. The U.S. will provide $450 million in assistance for legal institutions, education and the economy. A new approach will have to be developed for the anti-drug effort.

How is the US without restoring its industrial base going to build its Navy? This is a question Mike Pence, the Conservatives in the Republican Party have to answer. Or if they do not take on this question are they using a playbook that is obsolete, was obsolete for a decade, and is now dangerous as if this opportunity to rebuild is not taken USA may lose its leadership in the world. Foreign Investment coupled with US and US Government investment- Mike Pence and Conservatives in the Republican Party, Wall Street interests say the US is losing foreign investment through its tariffs program, and faults it for targeting Europe, Canada, India, America's allies. DJT includes these countries because it makes it easier to come to an agreement with China that offers to abide by the original rules of fair trade when it is not singled out. It is to convey beyond a doubt to China that the US intends to play fair and expects the same from China as one of China's friends throughout its struggle with British and Japanese imperialism and colonialism. The U.S. under president Trump ends the 18 year long war with an agreement signed in Qatar between the U.S. and the Taliban. The Taliban are required to fight all forms of terrorism in Afghanistan as part of the agreement. In the first phase of the withdrawal of American troops, a third of the 12,000 American troops will be withdrawn with a similar reduction of NATO forces. This ends a costly war that cost about 1 trillion dollars and acted as a distraction from major problems in America such as aging infrastructure, and problems related to health, education and other services. President Trump was clear about his perception of America's role during a New Delhi news conference. America could not act in a police role for other states and regions, he said.

President Trump has secured support of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and India for the agreement to bring peace to the region.

He points to failures in decades of such negotiations and finds a more promising atmosphere in the general feeling in the Middle East that focusses on the region's problems in inequality, jobs, infrastructure, and opportunity.

It creates awareness on World Water Day but comes across as a largely academic exercise, ask any rural woman in India and she knows the significance, question is what should have been done and the resources are there. For action it has to come from nations,, large nations such as India from it's Jal Jeevan Mission, China and Japan transferring the knowhow and technologies to Africa and Latin America and other parts of Asia. The period after a pandemic is also a time to focus efforts on  doing this. How it undermines girls and women and their participation in society is part of the understanding in India, and uppermost in the minds of Indian leaders and technologists, and in the mind of PM Modi. Unfortunately the UNESCO reports fails to even cover right up front in its summary how Jal Jeevan is being done for 1.4 billion people in India to have clean tap water so that people in Africa and Latin America can see that this is possible, if in the Himalayan regions possible in their region it is possible. Abiy Ahmed, Ethiopia's leader for less than 2 years, is a courageous choice for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019, says the Guardian. He has accomplished much in a short time with the peace arrangements with Eritrea, ending a 20 year old war, and opening up dialogue and discussion in the country by lifting bans on opposition groups. Half of the cabinet is female, and the head of the election commission an exiled dissident.  Yet the Guardian is cautiously optimistic because the change is sudden and dramatic, it needs to be consolidated for the long term. The Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front appointed him as leader to make these changes. What the Nobel Prize COmmittee has done is to recognize the hope that this brings to Africa, torn as it has been by recurring wars and ethnic conflicts for  way too long after the scars of colonialism. Can the positive changes in Asia provide new inspiration to Africa that this can be overcome and modernization, improvement in the lives of people happen as everyone each on his own account takes personal responsibility.   ...

Maurice Faure, the last living signatory of the Treaty of Rome, which established the European Economic Community, setting the path to the setup of the European Union, said the award of the Nobel Peace prize to the European Union and the many Europeans who struggled to establish the EU was "an official recognition of what we developed, notably peace." He added that "the European Union is a work in progress." Starting with France and Germany, then bringing in Spain and Portugal with the condition that democracy is established in the two countries, and bringing in Croatia and Montenegro, and now Serbia, it has moved froward step by step to establish reconciliation between the countries in Europe after a century of conflicts and wars. Critics outside the eurozone and inside said the award of the prize was ludicrous considering the differences between Germany and the countries of southern Europe over austerity policies. Looking back Faure's remark that the European Union is a work in progress is true today as it was during the setting up of the European Economic Community, and one could add a work that was never easy in the past to bridge differences and does not look any different in the future. There is a tendency to forget or lose sight of the difficulties in the early years when German chancellor Adenauer and France's Monnet worked to lay the groundwork for Germany and France to work together. German chancellor Merkel described the award as both recognition of the efforts and "an obligation" for the future....

President Biden whose ancestors are Irish will visit Northern Ireland in an effort to hail the 25 year old deal that brought an uneasy peace between the two communities in Northern Ireland, the Catholics and the Protestants.
