There are 25,000 Britishers in Qatar. The South Asians are underpaid workers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka who built the soccer stadiums during the World Cup 2022. The discovery of oil and gas has changed the region and created a region with this kind of population mix with wide disparities in income and wealth. As late as 1998 the GDP was only $10 billion growing to $115 billion by 2008 and $208 billion in 2025. ...

A profile of the Education Minister who resigned Dharmendra Pradhan of Orissa whose father was member of parliament from Deogar. His father was a RSS functionary and was Union Minister for Surface Transport 1998-2001 in the first BJP Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. Like others Dharmendra Pradhan started his career in the student wing and youth wing of the BJP. He has a degree in Anthropology from Utkal University in Bhubaneshwar. He followed his father to represent Deogar in parliament. By 2024 he became national general secretary of the BJP.  In 2014 Pradhan was made the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas. Ujjwala Yojana for free cooking gas was launched under Pradhan. Pradhan may have been so involved in state politics and distracted, and in addition his background was not strong enough to tackle the growing challenges in India's education system. This can be used as an opportunity for India to get new capable people at the ministry and in the civil service at the top of the Education Department, and PM Modi's personal attention to this important Ministry and goals set for India's education to match its advances in science, technology, and infrastructure. Exam leaks are only a small part of the problem- they have been the source of protests for 50 years and that nothing was done to clean this up is both an opportunity missed, and one that can be taken up immediately. ...

Oil prices expected to drop from $70 per barrel to $60 per barrel in July 2026 easing oil crisis in advanced and developing nations. A drawdown of inventories by 163 million barrels happened to OECD countries in the 4 months of the Hormuz crisis. Advanced European nations will replenish their inventories starting in the 4th quarter, the US next year in 2027, China with a billion barrels in inventory is not in a hurry to replenish at this time. Factors improving the situation are that the UAE has increased production and sends it though Fujairah that is separate from Hormuz after it left the OPEC oil organization (which sets production quotas for members to control prices). Kuwait is doing the same. Saudis have also increased production routing it away from Hormuz. The advanced countries have learned from the Hormuz crisis. China has changed its oil consumption policy to use it more efficiently one of the big changes from the Hormuz crisis. Instead of importing 10 million barrels a day oil China now imports 6 million barrels a day. China was always a prolific user of oil and as long as oil was plentiful China did not pay enough attention on how to use oil as efficiently as some European nations and Japan are doing. During the crisis the rest of the world including India had time to figure out ways of running their economies using less oil and will continue to do so knowing that Hormuz had allowed one country (Iran) to put the whole family of developing nations in Africa and Asia, Latin America at risk. Hormuz channel itself has opened and about 40-60 ships are making their way through each day. There are risks that Iran will try to close Hormuz again or that the war will restart and this means all nations advanced and developing nations are finding and securing alternative oil supplies. US is also increasing production through its oil base and oil base of its allies, and American plus European oil companies will act to increase supplies and new sources of oil to prevent the world being threatened again in the way it was at Hormuz in 2026. ...

WSJ Editorial Board on Andy Burnham "wish him well,"  yet  this editorial says "he has wrong instincts." Calls Burnham as being "cipher on immigration," "want government to take lead on housing construction" and "wants greater state control of utilities," are unfounded criticism as shown below- "Cipher on immigration" - Burnham has supported Shabana Mahmood, as Home Secretary, on new action for strict immigration rules, tight control over migration, similar to Denmark.  He "wants greater control over utilities."  WSJ says nothing about how utilities were privatized under the Conservatives for basic services that are necessities for a basic quality of life- water, energy and transportation. It is widely accepted across Britain that the private entities have dismally failed the British people in ways not thought possible. Handing basic services to for profit companies was a fundamental error in Britain as it deteriorated the quality of life of the British people. As Burnham pointed out yesterday in speech to Labour and the British people if one cannot get something as basic as a bus service right how on earth can one fix the larger problems facing Britain? He "wants government to take the lead on housing construction."  When there are shortage of housing affecting the standard of living and quality of life as in the US and Britain the government can make a difference, and its stepping in and doing things correctly can improve the quality of life of the British people. He has "the wrong instincts on economy" with suffocating net zero policies. It is reported in The Guardian that Burnham will support drilling for oil to help bring down cost of energy. The focus now is not net zero goals but making life better, improving the quality of life, achieving some balance which now is leaning towards cost of living affecting the people. In fact on July 19 DJT said people will be dancing in the streets of Aberdeen as Burnham is supporting drilling for oil in the North Sea. Much of the criticism of the Sky News and WSJ continues to follow a pattern of failed coverage of the past with no faith in Britain's future and potential. Every new effort is met with "it can't be done." He has the wrong instincts for business. In modern economies business is part of and the main driver of the economy. In Burnham's work in Manchester business was part of his plan for the economy, and successfully implemented. For far too long in Britain there has not been an honest reckoning on how policies that were reckless with the quality of basic services that affect the quality of life of the British people, would let Britain down, would fail to deliver for the people of Britain. The country that led the Industrial Revolution deserves something better and should get it in this one bold effort by Burnham. ...

IBM CEO Arvind Krishna Interview with Christopher Mims on IBM's mainframe hardware business and its future in quantum computing. IBM sees quantum computing as a trillion dollar business and CEO Krishna thinks it will happen sooner in the next 4-5 years. Siimilar to Nvidia's lead in AI type chips IBM holds lead in quantum computing hardware technologies. IBM's mainframe business generates 20-25% of sales but it also generates software and services sales related to IBM's hardware which is about $4 for every dollar of mainframe sales. IBM was affected by not enough orders closing last quarter yet this has picked up with a lot of the orders closing in the first month of the second quarter. Krishna is optimistic about IBM's future.

Smithsonian under current leadership failing to tell America's story from Washington and Jefferson to Lincoln and TR/FDR that has inspired millions in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Somewhere particularly in the exhibit on Benjamin Franklin at the entrance to the Smithsonian, this version of history as presented by the current leadership at this revered institution, has simply lost its way. A scientist, inventor, diplomat, publisher and anti-slavery advocate, Franklin was indispensable in getting the French into the War of Independence during his missions to France on dangerous repeated voyages. Without Franklin Washington's effort may have been in vain and the independent Nation of America may never have come into place. The national Archives show Franklin was the president of the Pennsylvania Society for the Abolition of Slavery and petitioned Congress for its abolition in 1790, none of this is shown in the exhibit. It is simply incomprehensible that this would be allowed to take place. Some of the Founding Fathers were clear and bold in their fight against slavery, bolder than Lincoln who advanced his cause with calculated steps and relentless determination but even Lincoln knew he could not take it up in one big step, instead preparing the Nation to move forward step by repeated step in the 1850's. One can see this across Asia, Latin America, and Africa- there country after country's leaders were inspired by Jefferson's words and by Washington, Lincoln, TR and FDR, John F. Kennedy. ...

China's industrialization, urbanization, and modernization was not achieved without the same struggles since 1990. Because years of colonization and wars, conflicts, China and India had fallen so far behind that even when industrialization, urbanization and modernization took place there was always the fear that it could be derailed by protests over the very same thing that the industrialization and modernization was doing to get- good jobs. Populations are so large that tens of millions, or hundreds of millions are involved. China carefully monitored the protests and sought to defuse this in the interests of the 1.4 billion people of China. Yet China was industrializing in the second effort- the first effort being suppressed by the Imperial Japanese Army in the 1930's. China was industrializing with much support from the US by the 1990's, upto the point that the Clinton and Obama administration let America's supply chain be shipped to China to let China advance after centuries of suffering and backwardness. Coming back to India- India is facing the same situation with some special characteristics. What are these special characteristics? The social media and mobile phones were not an ubiquitous presence in the  hundreds of millions including you tube (Google) video, and Instagram (Meta) photos during China's industrialization period 1990-2020. Even then China faced some risky periods when it monitored the situation so that industrialization would not be derailed. It is thought that somehow an elected government in China would then after protests push forward the industrialization. But this is a risky proposition most likely it would have failed first by a break up of the unity of China, second by the lack of a concerted disciplined strong effort to industrialize, modernize. Third corruption could diminish the funds and investment without a strong centralized government. If China's industrialization had collapsed as a result after protests,  media in US and Europe, the political and educated class of the US and Europe would simply shrug it off as China's fault and the Asian societies as a riddle wrapped in an enigma unable to progress. This is true of India also and one can see it happening, including participation by the same media in making that happen. Without the vigilance of China's government in 1990-2020 and today for Vikshit Bharat 2047 by India's government industrialization and modernization would never happen. This is because no democratic government could establish as strong a government needed to push through industrialization and modernization of thousand years old countries stuck in feudalism and colonization poverty, and incapable of achieving a continuous undistracted determined effort over 25-30 years. Only Britain with its Empire's resources was able to do this, and the US with its vast natural resources because of a long tradition of the Anglo-Saxon peoples in democratic forms of government. Under democratic forms of government if that route was adopted China's industrialization and modernization would have failed and ended up with a divided China and a weak China with slow, erratic economic progress. What about India? India has some chance because unlike China India had a 25 year period to prepare for democratic forms of government through elected state assemblies from 1920's to 1950. China had none, worse regional warlords and Japanese invasion in 1920-1950. What this means is that for India to succeed to create Vikshit Bharat, a modernized economy, a miracle is needed for a strong centralized party government to appeal to the people and win state elections, national elections on a nationalist call. And at the same time after winning such state elections to know that hundreds of years of self neglect, internal conflict and colonization was hard to reverse even through determined effort- gaps between jobs needed and jobs existing would exist for population of 1.4 billion in the tens of millions. The central government had to have its ears close to the ground and explain what it was doing, where it had fallen short and with humility and reflection correct course where needed. This is what the Modi government has done by having the Minnister of education resign, and taking corrective actions on the genuine concerns of protestors. And yet Explain to the Indian people that only rapid industrialization could create the jobs needed, the protestors genuine concerns could be met but nothing would be achieved if the industrialization process at the heart of things was allowed to be derailed. That would mean a disaster for India- and the Indian people could not risk the possibility of this happening after centuries of colonization and thousand years of neglect, feudal patterns, and divisions in society. Would US and Europe even understand this, would they even care? This is reflected in the coverage of the protests over education and jobs in DW.com, the Times of London, the WSJ, the NYT, and generally in the media. Would the jobs increase somehow after the protests- this entirely depends on rapid industrialization, large investments, strategic investments, and smart access to capital and technologies from US and Europe. The Modi government has given its all- clean governance,  determined effort, massive investments, ten year plan and master plan, rapid implementation. There will still be a lack of jobs but this is the best hope for India, as it was for China. Like China, India if it perseveres can only repeat the process that has happened in Japan and China since the 1950's - rapid progress to modernization and industrialization for Vikshit Bharat 2047. The Modi government has one by one tackled, the challenge of Clean Governance, Pandemic, DJT Tariffs, the Hormuz crisis, in the last decade in an unflinching effort to stay focused on creating an industrialized modern Indian economy with higher standards of living, jobs, the best infrastructure, best health care, and jobs for the millions turned out by schools and colleges. Hundreds of millions of people are being pulled out of poverty and the middle class is growing. Just when the pace of industrialization is accelerating to achieve the aspirations of the Indian people, in some places it may fall short, the growing pains of a massive effort, efforts are being made to fix shortcomings, yet the focus is unrelenting on Vikshit Bharat 2047 in stages to 2030, 2040, 2047.   ...

India's handling -under the Modi government and ministries working together in a long range plan- of the Hormuz crisis, and keeping gasoline prices, gas for cooking prices, and diesel prices to below 8% increases is an achievement of tremendous proportions. Yet it is rarely if ever mentioned  in the media in the US and Europe.  It shows the huge importance of good governance in the lives of nations and people, when we are talking about 1.4 billion people, of massive impact. This report on India's handling of the Hormuz oil crisis by the Modi government in The Hindu shows how India kept prices of petroleum and gas, diesel, down to an 8% increase compared to 45% +  increases in other countries in Asia and Europe. By having all ministries work together, planning for petroleum needs years before he crisis, government absorbing the cost, renewables energy goals accelerated, and better preparation through its oil reserves, India was able to weather the Hormuz crisis. US and its ally in Venezuela have stepped in with Delcy Rodriguez's visit to India, Marco Rubio's visit to India to reassure India of supplies from their exports. Even as oil prices rose above $120 a barrel India was able to weather the crisis and show to the world and to the US, to the 1.4 billion people of India, how important a factor good governance can be in the life, survival and growth of nations and economies in the Modern World. In this report The Hindu shows petrol prices in India were up 7.5%, compared to Germany 14%, UK 19%, US 45%, Pakistan 50%, and Philippines 50%. FOr diesel UAE prices rose 85% in UAE itself, in India just 8%. Domestic cylinders of gas cost Rs 942, Ujjwala lower income and elderly benefiiciaries got it at Rs. 642 ($7). ...

Iranian response to Memorandum of Understanding shows reality of 2 factions in Iran, the IRGC military faction, and the elected president Pezeshkian plus Turkey /Pakistan/Egypt and Qatar as the second faction. With IRGC military rejecting the Memorandum on opening Hormuz and discontinuing nuclear weapons programs. This was true at the time Vance conducted negotiations and the Memorandum appears to have been accepted by IRGC only under great pressure from Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, and Qatar, and the faction under Iranian elected president Pezeshkian. Where IRGC thinking could have been to give  agreement to the Memorandum that they had no intention of keeping, as its policy on nuclear weapons remains unchanged, and its goal is to use Hormuz for leverage and extend its control of Hormuz channel. The cost of sanctions and not being able to export oil, the effect on its economy, on cost of living with rampant inflation, may be of little concern to the people who run the IRGC military who suppressed all dissent and protests in 2026. Protests across different parts of society to the deteriorating economy. How could the US respond? The US used the time of the ceasefire to create a new status quo by using open navigation of the seas as the principle behind opening and protecting the Omani side of the Hormuz for oil shipment. This is a principle accepted by all countries. There is a backup plan of the US, China, India, Japan and other countries and this is to prepare rapidly to do without Hormuz so that the economies of these nations are not affected. The US also supported efforts by Saudis and Kuwait, UAE, to increase oil exports through channels outside of Hormuz, UAE's decision to increase oil supplies and lower prices by leaving OPEC, and US creating alternative supplies for India through Venezuela. Most important is China's decision that it no longer needs the 5 million barrels of oil from Hormuz for its economy to operate using alternative supplies and increasing efficient use of its oil resources. The world is also building up oil supplies and inventories so that Iran cannot threaten a cutoff from Hormuz because all nations have made other arrangements. Attacks by Iran on oil shipping on the Omani side protected by the US breaking the principle of open navigation of the seas, can then be considered Iran disrupting an open seas navigation route which it no longer is allowed to do under international law. This is something the world public opinion would support. The NYT has been critical of the DJT action in Iran, the WSJ and other media had joined in criticism. The situation in July 2026 is that the criticism of the US by NYT and other media, and from Europe and other countries in Asia will now be muted, because the US has tried all the options and is now finding ways to be able to bypass Hormuz altogether, and a backup plan or strategy to minimize the impact on oil prices. So that oil price of $70 may be kept at level around 10-20% higher not much more as Iran's military IRGC continues to disrupt the Hormuz supplies.  ...

Nara is the city with ancient Buddhist temples of Japan, with India and Japan having a shared Buddhist history, India being the motherland of Buddhism. During these visits of the last month Modi has connected the ancient cultures of the largest nations in Asia- India, Indonesia and Japan- which will guide Asia in the years and decades ahead, and hopefully bring China also into the fold of nations with a common Vedic and Buddhist heritage since the time of the Buddha.   ...

China gets 5 million barrels a day through the Straits of Hormuz out of about 16 million barrels a day it uses, about 30% of its total oil needs. Insurers are withdrawing from the market. How will this affect oil supplies and prices? US has offered its financial institutions to offer insurance to all ships going through the Straits of Hormuz and provide assurance with defense escorts for tanker ships navigating the Straits of Hormuz. US will be targeting Iran's capabilities to keep the Straits of Hormuz open so that oil tankers can operate bringing oil from UAE and Qatar to Asia and Europe.

UK Reform Party has taken large donations from cryptocurrency companies. Reform leader Nigel Farage has received a 5 million pound gift from a cryptocurrency firm. What does this mean for cryptocurrency regulation in the UK as a world financial center, if Reform wins a general election and appoints the next Governor of the Bank of England when Andrew Bailey retires in 2028. This is discussed in The Guardian. The banking system of the US, UK and large countries was set up over many years and currency is only issued by a central bank with the financial backing of the nation. Cryptocurrency cannot on the basis of technology take that role without posing risks and destabilizing the financial system. The gradual splitting of society by the information economy, neglect of infrastructure, pharmaceutical pricing, banking speculation as in 2009 crisis, have been eroding some of the basic structures of democracy for the last two decades from within.  The wars in the Middle East policies, and the open borders migration policies, were effects from outside. What this has led to is counter to what one would expect. To fight open borders and the marginalization of some parts of the working class DJT Republicans have used whatever resources were available at the time in the 2024 presidential election. The cryptocurrency firms used this in opportunistic fashion to affect regulation of this currency by supporting the reelection bid of DJT in 2024 by making large donations. This has led to less regulation of cryptocurrency firms. Is this in the best interests of the Nation? Will this destabilize the banking system in ways that have happened before in the deregulation of banks before the 2009 financial crisis? In Britain a new Bank of England governor will be appointed after Andrew Bailey's term expires in 2028. Reform party in UK if elected as government would appoint the next Governor of the Bank of England. Reform's growing popularity is a result of Conservatives and Labour failing to take action on open borders, asylum hotels, and migration policy, following an ECHR code of rights that is inappropriate to such migration. What this means is that unexpected things happen as a result. Cyrptocurrency risks of destabilizing the banking system increase as a result of failure of parties on migration. This could be more destabilizing for Britain because of its role as a financial centre than the industrialized  economies such as Germany, China, and industrializing economies such as India. It poses risks in the US yet Federal Reserve Governor Walsh can exercise his own judgement about cryptocurrency and Congress can exercise oversight, the large banks can act to show the risks of destabilizing that cryptocurrency can pose. For Britain it is particularly dangerous as the US is also an industrialized power compared to Britain's focus on finance alone. Andrew Bailey can ignore lobbying by Reform Party in 2026 (Farage met with the Governor of the Bank of England), yet what happens if Reform appoints the next Governor in 2028? These are questions Britain needs to ponder. It is also why Andy Burnham is Britain's last chance to get things right on migration to the point that the British people feel good and proud of their heritage and history, British neighborhoods across the country feel safe and secure, and Britain shifts to reindustrialize its economy with partners in China and India, the European Union, and the US. A former Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, Sir Charlie Bean told the BBC about donations of Christopher Harbonne, who has a 13% ownership interest in cryptocurrency firm,Tether. "Stablecoins are only stable if they have the appropriate regulatory environment… But there is right now an unsurprising regulatory race to the bottom amid the potential for greater profits." He added: "When funds are coming from major shareholders of such large financial institutions, there is a clear potential conflict of interest here, for example, in the appointment of a new Bank of England governor. As Sergio Ramos brought the trophy out Spain's new World Cup team connected with the team that won the World Cup in 2010. Xavi, Iniesta, Casillas and Ramos were from that team in 2010. Rodri, Ferran and Olmo, Unai Simon showed Spanish football at its best. In terms of fans having the game of their lives in this World Cup the third place finish game was a classic that surpassed every other game. England played France in a 6-4 game in which England put up 4 goals in the first half and France responded with its own 4 goals in the second half, Saka got a hattrick, Bellingham 2 goals, and Mbappe added 2 goals for France to become the leading goal score of this World Cup. Declan Rice, Saka and Bellingham played well for England, Mbappe, Barcola and Dembele for France. Because of Argentina fizzling out and poor performance in the final it appears as though England which surrendered its lead in the 86th minute of the game with Argentina when coach Tuchel pulled out Declan Rice and made some questionable decisions, were the better team than Argentina. Its almost as if it is Spain No, 1, England No. 2, Argentina and France tied for third place if one went by the quality of the game played. With Brazil out early it appears that world soccer is returning to its roots in England, France and Spain, with newcomers as Egypt. ...

Iran's Assembly of Experts (clerics) acting as an arbiter as a power struggle takes place between elected president Pezeshkian and the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Assembly of Experts made up of clerics and the Ayatollah as its head shift support to one faction then to the other. This is who US is talking to and negotiating with. To negotiate with Pezeshkian even when agreement is reached the next day IRGC can come out and take action to control Hormuz by knocking out ships. A Qatari ship carrying 2 million barrrels in Hormuz was hit by IRGC when Pezeshkian signaled he had reached an agreement with the US that would release $6 of $12 billion in Iranian funds in Qatar. IRGC plan is to control Hormuz, charge tolls, and raise $40 billion a year through tolls. IRGC believes it can disrupt the narrow 15 mile channel on the Omani side in violation of international law of navigation that the US wants to keep open. For the US the question is - Can you even negotiate with the entity that is Pezeshkian and the elected government when it is in a power struggle with IRGC? Can you negotiate in the context of the burial as martyr of Iran's current religious leader Ali Khamenei? And even if you negotiate, IRGC responds to close Hormuz, US restarts bombing, where does this get the US when Hormuz remains closed. For the US and the world to generate alternative supplies to Hormuz the US works with China, India, Japan, Indonesia and European Union, Arab states, to take the following action. Get 5-6 million of the 20 billion of Hormuz barrels as day using existing and new Saudi and UAE pipelines outside of Hormuz channel, accelerating renewable energy and EV's hybrids, China doing without the 4 million barrels a day from Hormuz by cutting its oil use through energy efficiency, alternative sources of oil from Venezuela ramp up and new oil production in the US and other places in the world, using reserves and rebuilding reserve supplies, better management of the 80-90 million barrels a day of the 108 million barrels a day the world used in 2025. All of these action are taking place in the transition to a world without Hormuz for the last 60 days. ...

This is the right move, if US Steel is a success story with DJT tariffs and government support, British Steel will be a success story with the same kind of support. David Rubenstein's Interview of Heather Cox Richardson about the Revolutionary War after 1776 and the Civil War under Lincoln, and about American democracy in 2026, as a podcaster and a newsletter for Substack. She reaches a large audience in the northeastern, states and is based at Boston College where she is professor of American history. She says here most historians do not agree about history, and this shows as she has a unique interpretation of history. A reading of Abraham Lincoln's letters and speeches from the books published by Library of America shows a different Lincoln. Heather Richardson says Lincoln was hesitant about slavery and moved to abolition only as political situations required action. Our own reading at Lyrarc.com shows Lincoln in his debates with Douglas taking on the role of stewardship of the Nation Jefferson and Washington helped create with the Declaration of Independence, and Washington's conduct of the war (as a war of attrition that would be finally won with divine providence in the form of the aid from the French naval and military power.) His heart was with the Nation following the British example and abolishing slavery (as Britain had done under Witherspoon's leadership in parliament in 1807), and he was the principal proponent of that vision. All over Europe, from France to Britain the emancipation of man from feudalism, from slaveholding or holding people tied to the land was on the way out, and Lincoln believed that this direction was established and it was God's will expressed through his skills in debating the issues for the Nation to bring these ideas already established in Europe to the American continent. Nowhere, not even in one sentence unless taken out of context do we find Lincoln moving from his firm view, using every skill he had to push his vision forward to transform America step by step, almost as if God's own hand was guiding him in this task all the way. One has only to understand the mood of Britain to know that Lincoln knew in his heart that he would prevail. In 1772 Lord Mansfield in the Somerset vs Stewart case declared that chattel slavery had no basis under English Common law. In 1807 the British parliament abolished slavery. And in 1834 the Abolition of Slavery Act abolished slavery in the whole British Empire. By 1800 with the French Revolutionary Wars the mood was all over Europe for emancipation from feudalism, from slavery, for freedom. Lincoln was himself an expression of the mood of the time coming from a log cabin in Kentucky with little schooling and believing in the best British values in a new frontier country including its system of common law and freedoms guaranteed by an unwritten constitution. In 2026 there are views that show an hesitant ambivalent interpretation of America's resolve under Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln, in the fight for freedom of all people by projecting the founders into the current situation. Living in their time they fought the hardest to change what they saw, no less than William Wilberforce in the British parliament for the freedom of man in 1807. Britain's parliament abolished slavery in 1807 by 283 votes to 16 to standing ovation and an emotional parliament. Wilberforce said at the time-"God Almighty has set before me two great objects, the suppression of the slave trade and the reformation of manners." Lincoln was no less a force for good under God Almighty on the American continent than Wilberforce was in Britain. Carl Sandburg's biography of Lincoln shows this on every page. ...
