Russian oil production at 10 million barrels a day esentially remained flat this year and there are no new supplies coming in from the areas outside of OPEC. The wells in western Siberia are aging and like Prudhoe Bay in Alaska this is leading to declining production. Most of the increase in production was in the project in Sakhalin, in which Exxon is working with Russian oil companies. Russia has announced a $4.2 billion tax cut for the oil sector. Large investments will be needed for Russia to continue to produce 10 million barrels a day. Some of the investments would go into Eastern Siberia which is also a more difficult terrain to drill in. Demand within Russia is growing rapidly leaving less available for export. Right now Brazil is the only bright spot in new supplies with new offshore finds in deepwater areas where Brazil has a lot of experience drilling.

Classic DJT letter to Japan. WSJ annotates the letter but its annotation does not say that Japan has used the relationship with the US to its advantage, putting the US companies and industries at a serious disadvantage since 1970's. US Trade Representative under DJT first term 2016-2020 was Robert Lighthizer. Lighthizer was Deputy Trade Representative under Reagan in the 1980's negotiating with a Japan that would concede little. 2024 USTR Jamieson Greer was Deputy Trade Representative under Lighthizer. The Letter starts setting the tone that we have borne Japan's unwillingness to negotiate fairly with patience, ends stating we are ready to act. "It is a Great Honor for me to send you this letter in that it demonstrates the strength and commitment of our Trading Relationship, and the fact that the United States of America has agreed to continue working with Japan, despite having a significant Trade Deficit with your great Country." "We have had years to discuss our Trading Relationship with Japan, and have concluded that we must move away ....Our relationship has been, unfortunately, far from Reciprocal...Goods transshipped to evade a higher Tariff....If for any reason you decide to raise your Tariffs..." ...

One day in 1964 Oxford mathematician Roger Penrose decided that an impossible object could actually exist - a black hole in the galaxy after a planet collapses.Einstein's theory of relativity had predicted that when stars collapse they could form infinitely dense points of matter that no light would be allowed to escape. The formation of black holes supports Einstein's Theory of Relativity says the Nobel Prize Committee. Penrose is 89 and says it is good to get the Nobel Prize when one is good and old. Stephen Hawking a younger physicist passed away and was not included in the prize after supporting Penrose's work. Two astronomers in the U.S. at UCLA, Los Angeles, get a quarter of the prize for their work detecting black holes in the sky and providing evidence of a super massive black hole in the center of our galaxy. Pennrose says "If you have got grand ambitions its bad to get a Nobel Prize too early, it gets in the way of your science." ...

The Pope describes the Ukrainian people as a brave people fighting for self-determination and condemns the ferocity and cruelty of Russia's troops. He also says he met a head of state who months before the start of the war had told him about the dangers of NATO too close to Russia's borders and risks of a serious conflict. He seemed to suggest that not enough was done to prevent the conflict, that EU and NATO could have found imaginative ways of addressing Russian fears of NATO's presence at its borders.

The US will sell 5 Virginia class nuclear submarines to Australia. Manufacturing will start in the US and be shifted to Australia with nuclear submarine visits to Perth in western Australia by 2027. The US will at some point augment its own nuclear submarine fleet where about 1.5 submarines are added each year. The new US fiscal 2024 defense budget will be $835 billion, higher than in 2023. Australia and Britain will acquire new technologies and the knowledge to maintain these submarines. This will help the US maintain its lead in undersea technologies over China.

Runners have turned to cycling and rowing as low impact exercize after injuries. Here a cardiologist, 55 years old,  takes up rowing after taking a lesson. He calls rowing a technical sport which requires technique as you push through the legs to start the power in the stroke. He says rowing is a rare full body exercize that one can do without impact on the joints for older people. Kayaking, or rowing can be outdoors, and works well indoors on a machine. Dr Zarate from Pensacola, Florida, also does cycling, yoga and other exercise for fitness.

This Guardian report gives a discussion with Austin based Dr. Attia of Early Medical and ways to ensure healthspan- adopting healthy patterns of living including food and exercize, sleep, that start at an early age. The approach is that prevention should be the best way to tackle health issues that can develop later in life and the time for that is early, right now. Most of it is well established based on exercizing well, and weight exercize routine for strengthening muscle. It could just as easily include yoga or pilates, and sports. Nutrition plays an equally important part.
