The landing of the lunar probe Chang'e-4  on January 2, 2019 makes China the first country to land a probe on the far side of the moon. This follows a landing by Chang'e-3 lunar probe in 2013. A followup mission Chang'e-5 in Dec. 2019 will collect samples of the moon's surface and send them back to earth. The goal is to build a lunar base by 2025 and man the facility by 2030, and in the long run mine the moon for energy resources.  The U.S. space program  has lacked the steady commitment and vision needed to put astronauts on the moon for a second time, and is now being given a fresh boost for challenges ahead.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) increased 151% since March 9, 2009, when it hit a low with the global financial crisis. The Dow was at 16452 on March 7, 2014, the S&P 500 at 1878. This makes it the fifth longest running-comparable to the one after 1987- and the fifth in gains since 1900, according to Ned Davis Research. S&P 500 trades at 16 times component companies earnings for the past year, according to the FactSet, similiar to the level at which stocks peaked in 2007. Using a measure developed by Robert Shiller with a 10 year average of earnings gives a P/E ratio of 25 times earnings, compared to historical average of 16.5, and 27.5 in 2007. Shiller's measure reached its current level in 2003 before the bull market ended in 2007. The biggest support for the stock market has been Federal Reserve support by buying $3 trillion in bonds in the open market since 2008. This support is gradually being reduced as the economy recovers....

Hyundai says it has a road map, though not pecisely outlined, of how it will achieve its goal of an average of 50 mpg for all cars in its lineup. Hyundai sees 75-80 % of its cars running on gasoline engines, and 15-20% being hybrids or plug in hybrids, and 5% runnning on fuel batteries by 2025. Hyundai today is America's fuel economy leader with an average of 30.8 mpg in 2008, the most recent Environmental Protection Agency figures. Honda's comparable figure is 30.1 mpg, Toyota's 29 mpg, and about 24 mpg for Detroit carmakers. Rules set by the government require 35.5 mpg in 2016. Hyundai prefers to take the role of leader in setting fuel economy goals.
