As aresult Medicare will run out of funds by 2017, 2 years earlier than predicted last year. Medicare and Social Security issued their annual report yesterday, suggesting the nation cannot afford the cost of Medicare at the rate of current expenditure growth. Social Security will run out of money by 2037 four years earlier than predicited before. The only way to keep Medicare solvent says Mr Geithner is to reduce the rate of growth of health care costs.

Lt. Gen. Stanley McChrystal headed the Joint Special Oprations Command from 2003 to 2008. He is a hands on guy who spends m ost of his time in the field. He is good at building up a sophisticated network, and using his Rolodex to have extensive contacts with people in the field. He used this to track down insurgents and Al Quaeda in Iraq, helping destroy the insurgents leadership.

He was chief of staff for an army task force during operations to overthrow the Taliban in Afghnistan so his work with Afghanistan goes back many years.
