The Hindustan Times provides this look at the construction of a new 1000 bed hospital in Bandra Kurla complex exhibition area of Mumbai  that will be used for isolation of coronavirus cases. The hospital will be ready in time to tackle an expected further surge in cases in Mumbai by the end of May. The hospital will be equipped to handle another 5000 beds says the Mumbai municipal authority, MMRDA. Several hospitals are being built such as this one to tackle the surge in cases as Mumbai has about 25% of cases in India of coronavirus.

Social distancing is relaxed in places such as Delhi market in Chandni Chowk, India, as the Diwali holiday approaches. This is similar to what happened in Europe in the summer. India has managed to bring down the daily cases to 44,000 after reaching a high of 100,000 in September 2020 for a population of 1.3 billion people.

As cases mount during the second wave Sweden abandons its response of voluntary actions by the public,  experimenting some say with herd immunity in mind. Ban on large gatherings, school closures, as the toll reaches a level of per capita deaths taht are among the highest in the world. There is now fear of the health system being overwhelmed just as in the rest of Europe. There has been heated debate on the voluntary response and critics charged the government with abandoning the less vulnerable in the population.

By dropping most coronavirus restrictions including masks, social distancing and size of gatherings, and opening night clubs, England is risking the same sudden rise in new cases from variants that hit the Netherlands last week. Analysis of what happened in the Netherlands shows nightclubs and bars as the origins of 40% of the new cases in the Netherlands. Prime minister Rutte of the Netherlands apologized for this kind of reopening after a big jump in cases in Netherlands.Seven day average in the UK is at 46,000 for the last week. With 40% of the UK population not fully vaccinated, the new variants can spread faster and mutate in the unvaccinated population.  There is a basic difference in priority- getting to work and doing essential shopping compared to going to nightclubs. The Dutch government shut its nightclubs after reopening them in June. At this point England is split in how to reopen. The Mayor of London says masks will be compulsory in all public transit in London. And 55% of the UK public in a recent survey from YouGov think reopening in this way is the wrong thing to do. Another poll by Ipsos shows 70% of people surveyed saying they wanted mask wearing to be compulsory indoors for another month. One bar club owner says that he thinks what they are doing is wrong.
