Workers wages are depressed because of concessions made a decade ago to ensure the survival of the US auto companies. About 86% of the total value of cash in circulation was affected by the withdrawal of 1000 and 500 rupee notes by the Modi government on Nov. 8, 2016. This is about 22 billion bills. President Biden whose ancestors are Irish will visit Northern Ireland in an effort to hail the 25 year old deal that brought an uneasy peace between the two communities in Northern Ireland, the Catholics and the Protestants. Lloyd's of London is the world's largest insurance market with 35 million pounds in gross written premiums. Payouts for coronavirus are expected to be 6.2 billion pounds, with 3.2 billion pounds reinsured to reduce the losses. Lloyd's shows a loss of 900 million pounds for 2020. Without the crisis Lloyd's would have reported 800 million pounds of profit for 2020.

Aircraft engine manufacturer Rolls Royce says two thirds of its engines remain idle. Its cash burn for 2020 is 4.2 billion pounds. Rolls Royce supplies engines for the 787 Boeing Dreamliner and Airbus 350 aircraft. Its sales are normally 15 billion pounds. The Biden administration and Taiwan are accelerating the development of supply chain in India to tackle a chip shortage worldwide. Taiwan seeks to come up with an early agreement with India on tariff reductions for semiconductor components. The $7.5 billion plant investment would provide 5G electronics chips as well as automobile chips. India is studying various plant locations and 50% financial support after 2023 is planned with tax breaks and financial incentives.

A big change in the new Tax Law is the doubling of the Standard Tax deduction to $12,000 per person and $24,000 for a married couple filing jointly, if itemized deductions are not used. State and local income tax deduction is limited to $10,000. This will shift 20 million more people to not use itemized deductions. There will no longer be value in charitable deductions if one is using the standard deduction.

Eurozone data shows the GDP growth far outpaced the U.S.. In the first quarter GDP growth was 0.5% from the prior year, the annualized rate at 1.8% compared to 0.7% for the U.S.. European stocks are benefiting from the recovery in the eurozone. A global recovery in inflation is also helping, with political risk fading. Recovery is also taking place in parts of southern Europe, with 3% growth in Spain.

The addition of the Khadima party to the coalition government of prime minister Netanyahu increases Israel's desire for dialogue and seeking progress on a peace with the Palestinian Authority- if not a peace arrangement then even unilateral steps towards peace by both sides. The way forward in Syria is for the U.S. to talk with the Russians about a new government. The important thing is for the removal of the Assad family, the entire Syrian state does not need to be dismantled as happened with the Baath party in Iraq. Israel continues to build a fence in the Sinai facing Egypt, as it fears infiltration during the period of civil strife in Egypt. Israel views Egypt from the standpoint of any future Egyptian government honoring its treaty committments with Israel, otherwise says Barak it is upto Egypt to decide its future government....

All sectors of the U.S. economy see an increase in hiring, including retail, transportation, healthcare and manufacturing, as the economy adds 288,000 jobs in June, according to the Labor Department. Manufacturing added 16,000 jobs, transportation 17,000 and the public sector increased jobs by 26,000. Hiring also picked up for high school graduates compared to the poor record in 2013. In 2013 one Barclays economist says the jobs for high school graduates at this point were declining by 16,000 a month on yearly basis. He says employers are now adding 29,000 jobs for high school graduates a month in 2014. The unemployment for high school graduates declined to 5.8% in June 2014, for persons with some college education or an associate degree 5.0%, for college graduates 3.3%. Barclay's estimate is that the U.S. added an average of 231,000 jobs a month for the first half of 2014. The inflation rate remains at about 2%, giving the U.S. Fed more flexibility in setting rates to support jobs growth. The lower unemployment rate of 6.1% understates the underemployment, as a more accurate measure of employment which includes people working part time because they cannot find jobs is at 12.1%. The proportion of Americans in the labor force is also at a 36 year low of 62.8%. These two indicators for unemployment, unemployment including people working parttime, and the proportion of Americans in the labor force, combined with inflation, are the main indicators Fed chairmam Yellen is looking at....
