US-Swiss trade deal November 2025 for 15% US tariff in exchange for $200 billion in investment in US. This includes access to Swiss markets for the US. The agreement also will let in dairy products and chocolate to the US at 15% tariff to reduce cost of living concerns. Swiss dairy producers and chocolate makers are likely to bear most of the 15% tariff burden because of higher margins. The $2000 rebate to all Americans from tariffs is a good idea of the DJT administration to give Americans protection from the smaller share of the tariffs that are passed on to consumers that are not borne by the producers exporting to the US. Overall in that situation the US will benefit in the restructuring of world trade that the DJT administration will have accomplished without hurting American consumers and bringing large scale investment into the US for jobs and higher wages. This is the part of the DJT Deal that could help America rebuild its manufacturing and economy in new ways.  ...

The Labor Department reports that the U.S. added 255,000 jobs in July 2016.Unemployment remained steady at 4.9%. Of the jobs added, 70,000 were in business and professional services, 43,000 in health care, 38,000 in government mostly in local education, 18,000 in financial services. Yet growth remains slow at 1.2%. Businesses are willing to hire new employees, but reluctant to make new investments in the prevailing uncertainty. Wage growth for average hourly earnings was about 2.6% for the year. Improvements in the jobs picture is likely to influence the U.S. presidential election.

70% of the world's internet traffic goes through 6 miles of land in Ashburn, Virgina, that is called Data Center Alley. This part of northern Virginia is filled with data centers that generate tax revenue for local communities. Culpepper where 17 year old George Washington worked as a Surveyor in the 1740's is one of these counties with data centers. Nearby 90 miles from Washington DC is Rappahannock County, which has rejected this development and not increased its population of about 8000 people for decades. US health care is not working. In UK and Canada the sytem is regulated in a way doctors and hospitals work togerhter to keep costs down. This is not happening in the US. insurers and doctors are pitted against each other and patients are in the middle. Insurers are also running about 70% of self funded employer plans that pay insurers a fee and are the responsibility of employers. Insurers then cut costs and do this for employers. Sel funded means employers pay cost of claims insurers merely get a fee. Patients are caught in the middle between Insurers and doctors/hospitals. The insurers cutting costs overbilling Medicare and skimping on payments, doctors trying to overcharge. Christopher Whaley, an associate professor at Brown University’s School of Public Health says- “We have a system of whack-a-mole, with providers trying to get paid and insurers trying to constrain costs—patients are caught in the middle,”  Obama exchanges to get people covered never thought through to come up with a better system and is a Band Aid. At some point the whole system ought to be scrapped and one built from scratch and designed to work so that hospitals and doctors provide best service at lower costs.   ...

Jeffrey Immelt of GE makes a critical point in this op-ed article- that the concept of the US transitioning from a technology-based, export-oriented economic powerhouse to a services-led, consumption based economy was a bad idea because it would lead to a loss of jobs, prosperity and prestige. Immelt calls it "fundamentally wrong." In this piece he makes the point repeatedly and takes his role as head of the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness seriously, saying that there is nothing inevitable about the decline of manufacturing in America, that it can and must be reversed. For over two decades business leaders have taken a complacent attitude about the effects of a continued decline of manufacturing in America and the loss of jobs in the US, even as they built plants and expanded overseas. Now for the first time Immelt articulates a new policy for government and business leaders. He says businesses should invest more in advanced products and technologies that create jobs in the US. In doing this he joins Intel's Andy Grove and other business leaders who expressed a growing frustration with the pessimism that this loss of jobs and competitiveness is creating among young people in the US, and the cloud it is creating about America's future. Immelt adds that it is imperative to care about what happens at home in the US, and the growing pessimism that lack of jobs growth in the US creates should not be accepted....

People from academia meeting at Howard University's African American Economic Summit see a disturbing picture for improving the economic condition for black people in the U.S. Black unemployment at 13.8% is almost twice the rate for whites of 7%, according to government figures. Estimates of wealth disparity between whites and blacks of 20 to 1, declining black homeownership after the surge in foreclosures which hurt minorities badly, and lower savings after the 2008 financial crisis paint a bleak picture The outlook says participants is a bigger concern, not only have disparities widened, the future looks uncertain at best with further widening of the disparities a serious possibility.
