As Biden launches his bid for reelection in 2024 a look at Pew Research analysis of the 2020 election shows that he significantly narrowed the margins Mr. Trump had in his favor in 2016 among married men and among veterans. As NYT's assessment of the Pew Research shows it was the support gained among moderate to conservative voting groups that won the election for Biden, not the traditional Democratic constituencies among minorities where Mr. Trump had in fact gained some ground in 2020. With married men and with veteran households Trump could manage only a ten percentage lead in each, 54% Trump to 44% for Biden in 2020, a huge difference from the big gaps in 2016 of 30 points. This probably decided the 2020 election for Biden. Some of this goes back to 1913 election of a professor at Princeton, New Jersey, Woodrow Wilson. Theodore Roosevelt had split the Republican party in the previous election by supporting his nominee Taft and fighting the election against Taft in 1913 after differences emerged with Taft. Wilson was the Democratic candidate with a strong agenda for workers rights during a period of income inequality as there is today. A similar situation is also seen in the 1948 election with Democrat Harry Truman defeating Republican Dewey after putting forward a Fair Deal in a program to protect workers and families following war and economic depression. ...

K.V. Kamath, former CEO of ICICI Bank, will become the new nonexecutive chairman of Infosys. S.D. Shibulal, the chief operating officer, will be the new CEO of Infosys. Mr Shibulal said he will pursue a new strategy that will align the company's businesses on the basis of industries, service lines and geographies. Infosys stock is down 16%, and it is experiencing weak growth. This follows a period when the founders of the company, including Mr. Narayana Murthy, played a dominant role in management.

It was a concept started by a Goldman Sachs investment banker Mr. O'Neill at a different time in 2010. Brazil will gradually shift back to its position as part of the US alliance in Latin America with Mexico, Argentina and Chile. Boris Johnson's new Brexit plan leaves Northern Ireland out of the customs union with the European Union which could be a sticking point for Ireland and the European Union. The plan has other issues that will require to be resolved including the lack of adequate customs checks for goods entering Britain from the European Union. Airbus's plan to invest $600 million for a manufacturing plant in the U.S. state of Alabama. Airbus plans are to assemble the A320 models of single aisle planes at a new plant in the Mobile area in 2015. By 2018 the plant would make 50 planes annually including the planned shift to the "Neo" version of the A320 with new engines. Because the planes are priced in U.S. dollars manufacturing in the U.S. helps reduce the effects of currency fluctuations on Airbus's financial performance. Costs of manufacturing are similiar to that in Europe, according to Airbus executives, as final assembly is only 5% of the cost and about 40% of Airbus equipment for planes is manufactured in the U.S. But Airbus management has realized the importance that final assembly plays in perceptions about where the plane is made, with these perceptions playing a part in getting a bigger share of the market.

Landlords and real estate brokers say only 10% to 20% of workers will return to their office when New York offices reopen after 3 months on June 22. Most companies are taking a careful approach and letting employees work from home or opening offices at reduced occupancy. Gradually this will increase from 20%. Yet offices are not expected to have a more normal look till Labor Day with people returning to work, and that too if schools have reopened.

There are concerns about public transit how many people it can accomodate with social distancing guidelines, and if more drivers lead to traffic jams.

For the first time in decades Mexico has a president who travels on regular commercial flights, flying in tourist class. There is no presidential plane, no presidential mansion. He starts his day at 6 am with a crime report and a Cabinet meeting By 7 am he is at the presidential palace giving a free wheeling press conference. He has in 3 months talked to the media and the public more than was done in 6 years under the previous presidents. By noon he is on his way to catch a commercial flight to a provincial city such as Guadalajara.  There he meets local leaders, eats at a local cafeteria, and attends an open rally. He is most comfortable brushing against people, pressing the flesh, and making some comments in one liners, something he has done for twenty years since becoming the Mayor of Mexico City.  He is a bit evangelical, more like Bernie Sanders, but with the power. Mexicans listen to him attentively. Mexicans were so fed up with corruption, neglect of public opinion, and lack of rule of law, that Obrador after contesting with difficulty in previous two elections won decisively in the recent presidential election with large majorities in parliament. He has in the first 100 days moved to scrap a new $12 billion airport with costly cost overrruns using a referendum to make the decision. He has also cooperated with the Trump administration to slow the flow of migrants from central America, working with the U.S. on a $11 billion investment in Mexico and Central America to create the jobs and secure environment so that people can stay in their homes.   ...
