This Perspectives piece in the DW.com says the German government has little option but to support the federal Leipzig court ruling in favor of banning diesel cars in cities with high pollution levels. It says the best days of diesel engine cars are over in Germany and in Europe. No mention is made of the man who made all this possible- George Washington, with his humility, his leadership of the Continental Army in the difficult days ahead as the Nation fought its way through a long struggle with Britain. Britain used it's Navy at the time the most powerful in the world, it's economic power of the British Empire, and it's arms manufacturing power to defeat the Continental Army of the new nation. It was not until the decisive battle of Yorktown in 1781 in which George Washington surrounded the base of British troops stationed there that the war was won. For seven years George Washington persevered through many obstacles to win the war for future generations of Americans.

Washington Post's Tara Parker Pope who runs its Wellbeing Section offers important tips on restful breaks and rest activities that perform an essential restorative function for people. Restorative activites include taking a walk breaking off from routines of work, a cultural concept Feierabend in German of breaking off work at a set time, so that one can recharge mental and physical batteries. Science supports this- that during these restorative hours the brain is in the Default Network Network and active. Active rest means disconnecting from tasks say experts and this is why the concept of Feirabend or closing time, finishing time, end of work is very important for resting the mind and rejuvenating. This means rethink long days, to be productive throw in periods of rest, Feierabend, microbreaks, frequent vacation breaks of 8-10 days, every bit helps to be productive and to be healthy and strong in mental+ physical health.

The Manhattan business district of New York City has office occupancy rate of only 50%, leaving half the office space unused and vacant. Only 9% of Manhattan office employees are in the office 5 days a week, 37% 3 days a week, says this report in WSJ. The business district is far from recovery. New York Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul have convened a group of civic leaders to draft a158 page report called- New New York Panel. The New York Panel suggests turning some of the business space into parks and promenades for pedestrians to make the city attractive and the space livable with green areas. A new director of public realm would report to the mayor. New York City has suffered much from the pandemic. The old midtown and the old city is no longer the kind of attractive livable green space that people want to live in or get to.

Britain sees the transmission rate for coronavirus in September "high or rising exponentially." The daily cases on September 21 reach 4,368 and the chief scientific and medical advisors to the government of Britain say this could double every 7 days if nothing is done to reach 50,000 cases a day.
